In Greek mythology, the name Clite or Cleite ( grc, Κλείτη means "renowned, famous") may refer to: *Clite, daughter of Danaus and Memphis (mythology), Memphis, married and killed Cleitus (mythology), Cleitus, son of Aegyptus and Tyria (mythology), Tyria. *Clite, a maenad who followed Dionysus on his India, Indian campaign. *Clite, daughter of Merops (mythology), Merops of Percote and wife of Cyzicus (mythology), Cyzicus. Argonautica
The ''Argonautica'' ( el, Ἀργοναυτικά , translit=Argonautika) is a Greek epic poem written by Apollonius Rhodius in the 3rd century BC. The only surviving Hellenistic epic, the ''Argonautica'' tells the myth of the voyage of Jason and the Argonauts to retrieve the Golden Fleece from remote Colchis. Their heroic adventures and Jason's relationship with the dangerous Colchian princess/sorceress Medea were already well known to Hellenistic audiences, which enabled Apollonius to go beyond a simple narrative, giving it a scholarly emphasis suitable to the times. It was the age of the great Library of Alexandria, and his epic incorporates his research in geography, ethnography, comparative religion, and Homeric literature. Cyzicus (mythology)
In Greek mythology, King Cyzicus or Kyzikos (Ancient Greek: Κύζικος, ''Kúzikos'') was the ruler of the Dolionians, a tribe that inhabited the southern shore of the Propontis (the Sea of Marmara). Maenad
In Greek mythology, maenads (; grc, μαινάδες ) were the female followers of Dionysus and the most significant members of the Thiasus, the god's retinue. Their name literally translates as "raving ones". Maenads were known as Bassarids, Bacchae , or Bacchantes in Roman mythology after the penchant of the equivalent Roman god, Bacchus, to wear a bassaris or fox skin. Often the maenads were portrayed as inspired by Dionysus into a state of ecstatic frenzy through a combination of dancing and intoxication. During these rites, the maenads would dress in fawn skins and carry a thyrsus, a long stick wrapped in ivy or vine leaves and tipped with a pine cone. They would weave ivy-wreaths around their heads or wear a bull helmet in honor of their god, and often handle or wear snakes. Percote
Percote or Perkote ( grc, Περκώτη) was a town or city of ancient Mysia on the southern (Asian) side of the Hellespont, to the northeast of Troy. Percote is mentioned a few times in Greek mythology, where it plays a very minor role each time. It was said to be the home of a notable seer named Merops, also its ruler. Merops was the father of Arisbe (the first wife of King Priam, and subsequently wife of King Hyrtacus), Cleite (wife of King Cyzicus), and two sons named Amphius and Adrastus who fought during the Trojan War. Memphis (mythology)
In Greek mythology, Memphis ( grc, Μέμφις) was the female eponym of Memphis in Egypt. The name was attributed to several distinct characters, namely: * Memphis, daughter of Nilus. * Memphis, one of the many consorts of King Danaus of Libya and mother by him of the three Danaïdes: Chrysippe, Sthenele and Cleite.
