Clearview, South Australia
Clearview is a suburb of Adelaide, South Australia about 8 km north of the Adelaide city centre. The rectangular suburb is bordered by Grand Junction Road on the north, Hampstead Road on the east, Collins Street, Broadview on the south, and the suburb of Enfield on the west. History Clearview was originally planned and laid out in 1922 by the Clearview company on parts of sections 334-346 and 338 in the Hundred of Yatala. It was so named because the high ground on which it was situated had a good view south west to the River Torrens and west and north west of the portion of the Adelaide Plains that was to become Adelaide's inner north and north west suburbia. Enfield is a single-member electoral district for the South Australian House of Assembly. Named after the suburb of the same name, it is a suburban electorate in Adelaide's inner north, taking in the suburbs of Blair Athol, Broadview, Clearview, Enfield, Kilburn, Lightsview, Northgate, and Sefton Park; and parts of Nailsworth, Northfield and Prospect. The Hundred of Yatala is a cadastral unit of hundred in South Australia covering much of the Adelaide metropolitan area north of the River Torrens. It is one of the eleven hundreds of the County of Adelaide stretching from the Torrens in the south to the Little Para River in the north; and spanning from the coast in the west to the Adelaide foothills in the east. Dry Creek or Dry Creek Drain is a seasonal stream in South AustraliaWhitworth (1866) p. 69 which passes through the Adelaide suburbs of Modbury, Walkley Heights and Pooraka. The nearby suburb of Dry Creek and Dry Creek railway station are named after the stream. Description In season Dry Creek flows from its source near Yatala Vale in the Mount Lofty Ranges to the Barker Inlet of the Gulf St Vincent via a manufactured drain near Globe Derby Park. The Adelaide Plains (Kaurna name Tarndanya) is a plain in South Australia lying between the coast (Gulf St Vincent) on the west and the Mount Lofty Ranges on the east. The River Torrens , (Karrawirra Parri / Karrawirraparri) is the most significant river of the Adelaide Plains. It was one of the main reasons for the siting of the city of Adelaide, capital of South Australia.
