Clayton Colvin
Clayton Colvin (born 1976) is an American abstract painter, multimedia artist, collagist, and curator of contemporary art who lives and works in Birmingham, Alabama. Education Colvin received a BA in Art History from New York University in 1999 and an MA Ed. in Art Education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2003. He received his Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree in painting from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, AL in 2005. Colvin interned for Agnes, a photography art gallery in Birmingham, AL for several summers while attending University. As an undergraduate he interned for the Jack Tilton Gallery in New York City, NY. Art Colvin is represented by Guido Maus, beta pictoris gallery / Maus Contemporary in Birmingham, AL. His 2013 exhibit at the gallery was reviewed in Art in America by Cinque Hicks. Colvin has exhibited at the launch F18 gallery in New York City, NY and the Mobile Museum of Art in 2014. Abstract Painter
Abstract art uses visual language of shape, form, color and line to create a composition which may exist with a degree of independence from visual references in the world. Western art had been, from the Renaissance up to the middle of the 19th century, underpinned by the logic of perspective and an attempt to reproduce an illusion of visible reality. By the end of the 19th century many artists felt a need to create a new kind of art which would encompass the fundamental changes taking place in technology, science and philosophy. Anne Arrasmith
Anne Harper Arrasmith (February 20, 1946 – February 1, 2017) was an American artist and curator who lived and worked in Birmingham, Alabama. She co-founded and operated along with Peter Prinz the not-for-profit project ''Space One Eleven.'' Arrasmith was a student of Edith Frohock while at University of Alabama at Birmingham. Education Arrasmith attended Shades Valley High School. She then attended the University of Alabama, and graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Projects ''Space One Eleven'' In 1986, she and Peter Prinz founded ''Space One Eleven'' with a mission to present exhibitions that confront ideas in a southern context or framework. Arrasmith was the director for this facility. The Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts is a museum located in Montgomery, Alabama, USA, featuring several art collections. The permanent collection includes examples of 19th- and 20th-century American paintings and sculpture, Southern regional art, Old Master prints and decorative arts. It is also home to Artworks, a participatory art gallery and studio for children. The current building was designed by the Montgomery architectural firm of Barganier, Davis, and Sims and opened in 1988. An addition was completed in 1993.
