Clay County is a County (United States), county located in the U.S. state of Arkansas. Originally incorporated as Clayton County, as of the 2010 United States Census, 2010 census, its population was 16,083. The county has two county seats, Corning, Arkansas, Corning and Piggott, Arkansas, Piggott. It is a dry county, in which the sale of alcoholic beverages is restricted or prohibited. Sheeks House
The Sheeks House is a historic house at 502 Market Street in Corning, Arkansas. It is a -story wood-frame structure with a hip roof. A slightly projecting center section of its main facade is dominated by two-story gable-roofed portico, supported by a pair of two-story round Ionic columns. Passing under this portico is a single-story porch spanning the facade's three bays. The house was built in 1872 by E. Foster Brown, a prominent regional lawyer, but has been owned for most of the time since by members of the Sheeks family. Brown sold the house in 1878 to Edward V. Sheeks, one of the small community's first significant businessmen. Although of some architectural interest for the early 20th-century alterations that dominate its appearance, it is most significant for its association with these two men, both prominent in the politics and business of the region. Greene County, Arkansas
Greene County is a county located in the U.S. state of Arkansas. As of the 2010 census, the population was 42,090. The county seat is Paragould, which sits atop Crowley's Ridge. Greene County is included in Jonesboro–Paragould Combined Statistical Area. History The first settler in the area was Benjamin Crowley, who arrived from Kentucky in 1821 and made his home about west of Paragould. Greene County was formed on 5 November 1833 out of portions of Lawrence County and originally contained parts of present Clay and Craighead counties. The county was named for Revolutionary War hero Nathanael Greene. The first county seat was in Benjamin Crowley's home. By 1836, when Arkansas became a state, the county seat was located in a settlement called "Paris" (not to be confused with present-day Paris, Arkansas). U.S. Route 67 is a major north–south U.S. highway which extends for 1,560 miles (2,511 km) in the Central United States. The southern terminus of the route is at the United States-Mexico border in Presidio, Texas, where it continues south as Mexican Federal Highway 16 upon crossing the Rio Grande. The northern terminus is at U.S. Route 52 in Sabula, Iowa. US 67 crosses the Mississippi River twice along its routing. The first crossing is at West Alton, Missouri, where US 67 uses the Clark Bridge to reach Alton, Illinois. U.S. Route 62 or U.S. Highway 62 (US 62) runs from the Mexican border at El Paso, Texas, to Niagara Falls, New York, near the Canadian border. It is the only east-west United States Numbered Highway that connects Mexico and Canada. Parts of US 62 follow what once was the Ozark Trail, including the historic bridge across the South Canadian River in Newcastle, Oklahoma (the first structure built with federal highway funds in Oklahoma). Bird's Point (or Birds Point) is an unincorporated community in Mississippi County, Missouri, United States. It lies on an island or former island in the Mississippi River, near the confluence of the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers and is situated directly across from Cairo, Illinois. This is the point where the U.S. Route 60 bridge connects with Cairo. History Bird's Point was named for Abraham Bird Sr, who was a prominent planter and businessman in Shenandoah County, Virginia.
