Claus Pavels Riis
Claus Pavels Riis (February 19, 1826 – October 8, 1886) was a Norwegian author. He was born in Bergen and was the grandson of the priest and bishop Claus Pavels. Riis is now best known for writing the poem "Eg heiter Anne Knutsdotter" (I Am Called Anne Knutsdotter, 1869). During his lifetime, he was a popular author of plays and student songs under the pseudonym Crispinus before he settled in Tysnes as a landowner and gardener. Riis's play ''Til Sæters: dramatisk Idyl med Sange'' (To the Mountain Pastures: A Dramatic Idyll with Songs, 1850) was very popular on Norwegian stages for many years. This work was the basis for the silent comedy film ''Til sæters ''Til sæters'' (To the Mountain Pastures) is a Norwegian silent comedy film from 1924 directed by Harry Ivarson (his first Norwegian film). Claus Pavels
Claus Pavels (8 January 1769 – 16 February 1822) was a Norwegian priest and diarist. His diaries from 1812 to 1822 are an important source for cultural and biographical history. He was the Bishop of the Diocese of Bjørgvin from 1817 until 1822. Early life and family Pavels was born in Vanse in Southern Norway on 8 January 1769. His father, a priest at Lista, died four months before Pavel's birth, and the boy grew up at his uncle's farm on Lista. He graduated from the school in Christanssand in 1785. He was a student in Copenhagen and member of The Norwegian Society there. In 1799, he married Maren Fasland. The couple had two daughters. Their daughter Karen married Johan Lyder Brun, Sr., a grandson of Johan Nordahl Brun, who preceded Pavels as bishop of Bjørgvin. He was the grandfather of the author Claus Pavels Riis. ''Til sæters'' (To the Mountain Pastures) is a Norwegian silent comedy film from 1924 directed by Harry Ivarson (his first Norwegian film). He also wrote the screenplay based on Claus Pavels Riis's 1850 musical ''Til Sæters: dramatisk Idyl med Sange'' (To the Mountain Pastures: A Dramatic Idyll with Singing). The plot of the musical was very thin and mostly served as an excuse to link together various dance performances accompanied by well-known Norwegian folk melodies.
