Claudio Desderi
Claudio Desdèri (9 April 1943 – 30 June 2018) was an Italian baritone and conductor. Life Born in Alessandria, son of Ettore Desderi, he made his debut in 1969 as Gaudenzio in Rossini's ''Il signor Bruschino'' in Edinburgh. A versatile baritone, he preferred comic roles. He was artistic director of the Pisa Teatro Verdi from 1991 to 1998, of the Turin Teatro Regio from 1999 to 2001 and superintendent of the Palermo Teatro Massimo from 2002 to 2003, the latter of which he brought to economic and cultural revival. Baritone
A baritone is a type of classical male singing voice whose vocal range lies between the bass and the tenor voice-types. The term originates from the Greek (), meaning "heavy sounding". Composers typically write music for this voice in the range from the second F below middle C to the F above middle C (i.e. F2–F4) in choral music, and from the second A below middle C to the A above middle C (A2 to A4) in operatic music, but the range can extend at either end. Daniela Dessì
Daniela Dessì (14 May 1957 – 20 August 2016) was an Italian operatic soprano. Life and career Born in Genoa, Italy, Dessì completed her studies at the Arrigo Boito Conservatory in Parma and the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena. She made her operatic debut on 7 December 1978 at Sanremo Casino's theatre as Serpina in ''La serva padrona'' by Pergolesi during the season of Savona's Teatro dell'Opera Giocosa. In 1980, she distinguished herself as a finalist at the Maria Callas International Competition organized by Italy's RAI TV. Her international career took her to a variety of opera theatres, singing under the direction of conductors such as Riccardo Muti, Claudio Abbado, and the Metropolitan Opera's James Levine. Jean-Pierre Ponnelle
Jean-Pierre Ponnelle (19 February 1932 – 11 August 1988) was a French opera director, set and costume designer. Biography Ponnelle was born in Paris. He studied philosophy, art, and history there and, in 1952, began his career in Germany as a theatre designer for Henze's opera ''Boulevard Solitude''. He was greatly influenced by the work of art director Georges Wakhévitch who also designed sets and costumes for the theatre, the ballet, and the opera. In 1962, Ponnelle directed his first production of Wagner's ''Tristan und Isolde'' in Düsseldorf. His production of that work at the Bayreuth Festival in 1981 was widely praised as one of the most aesthetically beautiful in its history. ' (''Cinderella, or Goodness Triumphant'') is an operatic ''dramma giocoso'' in two acts by Gioachino Rossini. The libretto was written by Jacopo Ferretti, based on the libretti written by Charles-Guillaume Étienne for the opera '' Cendrillon'' with music by Nicolas Isouard (first performed Paris, 1810) and by Francesco Fiorini for ' with music by Stefano Pavesi (first performed Milan, 1814). All these operas are versions of the fairy tale '' Cendrillon'' by Charles Perrault. Rossini's opera was first performed in Rome's Teatro Valle on 25 January 1817. Natale de Carolis (born 25 July 1957 in Anagni) is an Italian operatic baritone, who has had an active career in major opera houses internationally since the early 1980s. He is particularly associated with the works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Gioachino Rossini. Born in Anagni, Carolis studied singing with Renato Guelfi and Maria Vittoria. Edita Gruberová
Edita Gruberová (; 23 December 1946 – 18 October 2021) was a Slovak coloratura soprano. She made her stage debut in Bratislava in 1968 as Rosina in Rossini's ''Il barbiere di Siviglia'', and successfully auditioned at the Vienna State Opera the following year, which became her base.
