Claude Coats
Claude Coats (January 17, 1913 – January 9, 1992) was an American artist, background artist, animator and Scenic design, set designer, known for his work with the Walt Disney Animation Studios and Walt Disney Imagineering. His pioneering work with the company helped define the character of animated films, and later, immersive installations with his designs for Disneyland. Coats, known as "The Gentle Giant" was inducted a Disney Legend in 1991. Personal life Claude Coats was raised in Los Angeles and graduated from John H. Francis Polytechnic High School, Polytechnic High School. On an athletic scholarship, Coats attended University of Southern California as an architecture student, but later received his bachelor's degree in drawing in 1934. Walt Disney Studios (Burbank)
The Walt Disney Studios, located in Burbank, California, United States, serves as the corporate headquarters for The Walt Disney Company media conglomerate. The 51-acre (20.6 ha) studio lot also contains several sound stages, a backlot, and other filmmaking production facilities for Walt Disney Studios's motion picture production. The Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film is an award given by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) as part of the annual Academy Awards, or Oscars, since the 5th Academy Awards (with different names), covering the year 1931–32, to the present. ''Silly Symphony'' is an American animated series of 75 musical short films produced by Walt Disney Productions from 1929 to 1939. As the series name implies, the ''Silly Symphonies'' were originally intended as whimsical accompaniments to pieces of music. As such, the films usually did not feature continuing characters, unlike the ''Mickey Mouse'' shorts produced by Disney at the same time (exceptions to this include ''Three Little Pigs'', ''The Tortoise and the Hare'', and ''Three Orphan Kittens'', which all had sequels). Pluto's Judgement Day
''Pluto's Judgement Day'' is a '' Mickey Mouse'' cartoon released theatrically in 1935. Although labeled a Mickey cartoon, the main star is Pluto. It was the 78th short film in the ''Mickey Mouse'' series to be released, the seventh of that year. Plot Pluto chases a kitten through a window and right into Mickey's lap, causing a mess in Mickey's house. Mickey sternly scolds Pluto for his mean and nasty attitude towards cats, adding that he will have "plenty to answer for on (his) judgement day" if he keeps this up. Mickey then goes off to wash the kitten while Pluto falls asleep in front of the fireplace. ''Mickey's Fire Brigade'' is a 1935 American animated short film produced by Walt Disney Productions and released by United Artists. The cartoon stars Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and Goofy employed as firefighters responding to a hotel fire. It was directed by Ben Sharpsteen and features the voices of Walt Disney as Mickey, Clarence Nash as Donald, Pinto Colvig as Goofy, and Elvia Allman as Clarabelle Cow.
