Clashindarroch Forest
Clashindarroch Forest is possibly the largest forest in Aberdeenshire, situated to the south-west of the market town of Huntly. Managed by Forest Enterprise. It is the location of a series of Nordic Skiing trails managed by the Nordic Ski Centre. The forest is home to a small Scottish wildcat population, a species considered to be at the verge of extinction. In 2006, a proposal was made to construct a 47 turbine windfarm in the forest which was the subject of a public inquiry in May 2006. Construction of the 18 Senvion MM82 turbine 36.9MW Clashindarroch Wind Farm phase 1 project was completed in 2015. In 2020 Vattenfall Vattenfall is a Swedish multinational power company owned by the Swedish State. Beyond Sweden, the company generates power in Denmark, Finland, Germany, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom. A forest is an area of land dominated by trees. Aberdeenshire ( sco, Aiberdeenshire; gd, Siorrachd Obar Dheathain) is one of the 32 Subdivisions of Scotland#council areas of Scotland, council areas of Scotland. It takes its name from the County of Aberdeen which has substantially different boundaries. Huntly, Scotland
Huntly ( gd, Srath Bhalgaidh or ''Hunndaidh'') is a town in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, formerly known as Milton of Strathbogie or simply Strathbogie. It had a population of 4,460 in 2004 and is the site of Huntly Castle. Its neighbouring settlements include Keith and Rothiemay. Nordic skiing encompasses the various types of skiing in which the toe of the ski boot is fixed to the Ski binding, binding in a manner that allows the heel to rise off the ski, unlike alpine skiing, where the boot is attached to the ski from toe to heel. Scottish Wildcat
The Scottish wildcat is a European wildcat (''Felis silvestris silvestris'') population in Scotland. It was once widely distributed across Great Britain, but the population has declined drastically since the turn of the 20th century due to habitat loss and persecution. It is now limited to northern and eastern Scotland. Camera-trapping surveys carried out in the Scottish Highlands between 2010 and 2013 revealed that wildcats live foremost in mixed woodland, whereas feral and domestic cats (''Felis catus'') were photographed mostly in grasslands. It is listed as Critically Endangered in the United Kingdom and is threatened by hybridization with domestic cats. Since all individuals sampled in recent years showed high levels of hybridisation, this population is thought to undergo extinction. Senvion S.A. (called REpower Systems SE until 2014) was a German wind turbine manufacturer founded in 2001 in Germany, majority owned by a private equity firm. Senvion as REpower Systems, as it was initially called, was established in 2001 through the merger of German wind companies: HSW (Husumer Schiffswerft), the engineering consultancy Pro+Pro (a subsidery of Denker&Wulf and aerodyn Energiesysteme GmbH), the wind turbine manufacturer BWU and Jacobs Energie; and since April 2015 Centerbridge Partners.
