Clare Magee
Clare Magee (March 31, 1899 – August 7, 1969) was an American lawyer and politician from Missouri who served as a member of the United States House of Representatives from 1949 to 1953. Early life and education Born on a farm in Putnam County near Livonia, Missouri, Magee graduated from Unionville (Missouri) High School, and attended Kirksville State Teachers College and the University of Missouri. He studied law at the University of Missouri School of Law. Career During World War I, Magee served in the United States Navy as a seaman first class and small arms instructor. After the war, he homesteaded in the Bighorn Basin region and worked as a laborer for the United States Reclamation Service in Deaver, Wyoming. He was admitted to the bar in 1922, and commenced practice in Unionville, Missouri. Magee owned and operated his family's farm beginning in 1932, and was postmaster of Unionville from 1935 to 1941. Missouri's 1st Congressional District
Missouri's 1st congressional district is in the eastern portion of the state. It includes all of St. Louis City and much of northern St. Louis County, including the cities of Maryland Heights, University City, Ferguson and Florissant. The district is easily the most Democratic in Missouri, with a Cook Partisan Voting Index of D+29; the next most Democratic district in the state, the Kansas City-based , has a PVI of D+7. Roughly half of the 1st district's population is African American. Its current representative is Democrat Cori Bush, who was elected in 2020. William Lacy Clay, Jr., had previously represented the district since 2001, succeeding his father, William Lacy Clay, Sr. Bush, a progressive and leader in the Ferguson protests, beat Clay in the August 4, 2020 primary. Field Artillery Branch (United States)
The Field Artillery Branch is a combat arms branch of the United States Army that is responsible for field artillery. Historical background The U.S. Army Field Artillery branch traces its origins to 17 November 1775 when the Continental Congress, unanimously elected Henry Knox "Colonel of the Regiment of Artillery". The regiment formally entered service on 1 January 1776. During the 19th Century a total of seven Artillery regiments were formed which contained a mixture of "heavy" artillery companies and "light" artillery batteries. The light artillery batteries took the role of field artillery although they did not use that designation. The seven artillery regiments were designated as regiments of artillery and were not distinguished as being either "coast" or "field" artillery as was the practice in the 20th Century.
