Clare Bailey
Clare Bailey (born 18 June 1970) is a Northern Irish politician who was the Leader of Green Party Northern Ireland from November 2018 to August 2022, and was the Deputy Leader of the Green Party from 2014 to 2017. Bailey was a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Belfast South from 2016 to 2022. Early life Bailey was born in Clonard on the Lower Falls. She was one of the first 28 pupils of Lagan College, Northern Ireland's first integrated school. She later attended Queen's University Belfast. Political career Bailey identifies as pro-choice and a feminist. She was a client escort for women accessing healthcare advice at the Belfast Marie Stopes Clinic, enduring assault and intimidation from anti-abortion protesters. Edwin Poots (born 27 April 1965) is a British politician in Northern Ireland who served as leader of the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) from May to June 2021. He was first elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) in 1998, and was appointed Minister of Agriculture, Environment, and Rural Affairs in January 2020. In 2007, First Minister Ian Paisley appointed Poots to the Northern Ireland Executive as Minister of Culture, Arts and Leisure. Poots left office after Peter Robinson became First Minister in 2008. The 2017 Northern Ireland Assembly election was held on Thursday, 2 March 2017. The election was held to elect members (Member of the Legislative Assembly (Northern Ireland), MLAs) following the resignation of First Minister and deputy First Minister, deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness in protest over the Renewable Heat Incentive scandal.
