Clandestine (band)
Clandestine is a Celtic music group from Houston, Texas. Featuring bagpipes, guitar, fiddle, and drums (bodhrán and conga drums), they play traditional Celtic music (both instrumental and vocal) as well as some modern tunes (including some originals) in a Celtic style. Some songs include additional instruments like the flute, bombarde and various whistles. They formed in 1991, stabilized as a quartet in 1996, and dissolved for a time in 2003. In their original incarnation, the band made 4 discs and toured heavily around the US and also performed in Europe. They were favorites at McGonigel's Mucky Duck Pub in their hometown of Houston, as well as the Cactus Cafe in nearby Austin. The band reformed with a change in membership in late 2006. Celtic Music
Celtic music is a broad grouping of music genres that evolved out of the folk music traditions of the Celtic people of Northwestern Europe. Istanpitta (band)
Istanpitta is a musical group from the United States that primarily plays 10th–14th century music using traditional instruments and tunes. It was initially formed by Al Cofrin in 1994 to perform for medieval dance music developed as part of a college thesis project at the University of Texas. But it later grew and the musical group would perform in several places throughout the United States. The instruments played include: a medieval lute, vielle, bagpipes, recorder and percussions. The band also incorporates many traditional Arabic musical styles. Al Cofrin previously worked on a thesis project on medieval monophonic music and dances of pre-15th century transcriptions along with studies on Renaissance dance music. The cittern or cithren ( Fr. ''cistre'', It. ''cetra'', Ger. ''Cister,'' Sp. ''cistro, cedra, cítola'') is a stringed instrument dating from the Renaissance. The Cactus Café is a live music venue and bar on the campus of The University of Texas at Austin.
