Claiborne Holmes Kinnard Jr. (October 28, 1912– September 18, 1966) was a pilot from Franklin, Tennessee, who in World War II became a flying ace in the United States Army Air Forces, United States Army Air Force with the rank of Colonel (United States), Colonel. Based in England, he was officially credited with the destruction of 8 enemy aircraft in aerial combat and another 17 on the ground while strafing heavily defended enemy airfields. Kinnard received 12 medals for distinguished service, including the Distinguished Service Cross (United States), Distinguished Service Cross, Silver Star, Distinguished Flying Cross (United States), Distinguished Flying Cross with silver and bronze oak leaf clusters, the Air Medal, and Air Force Presidential Unit Citation (United States), Presidential Unit Citation. Franklin is a city in and county seat of Williamson County, Tennessee, United States. About south of Nashville, it is one of the principal cities of the Nashville metropolitan area and Middle Tennessee. As of 2020, its population was 83,454. It is the seventh-largest city in Tennessee. The city developed on both sides of the Harpeth River, a tributary of the Cumberland River.
