Civil Democratic Alliance
The Civil Democratic Alliance (Arabic: التحالف المدني الديمقراطي, ''Al-Taḥalof Al-Madani Al-Democrati'' ) is an Iraqi political coalition formed by various civil and democratic parties as well as independent figures for the 2014 Iraqi parliamentary election. The alliance split in 2017 when the Iraqi Communist Party left the alliance after reaching an agreement with the Alliance towards Reforms (Saairun) for the May-2018 election. The Civil Democratic Alliance then split into two alliances, the current consisting of mostly socialist left-wing parties who stayed part of the alliance and are led by the Social Democratic Movement. The second alliance formed in December-2017 includes centrist liberal & national democratic parties led by the People's Party for Reform of Faiq Al Sheikh Ali. Faiq Al Sheikh Ali
Faiq Al Sheikh Ali ( ar, فائق الشيخ علي, Fāʾiq aš-Šayḫ ʿAlī; born 2 July 1963) is an Iraqi lawyer and politician of currently serving as a Member of the Council of Representatives of Iraq since 2014 and is the Secretary-General of the People's Party for Reform. In parliament, he is a member of the Judiciary (Legal) Committee. He led the Civilized Alliance for the 2018 Iraqi parliamentary election. Early life and education Born in the city of Najaf, south of Baghdad to a prominent religious family (Grandson of Sheikh Ali Al-Murandi born in Morand in Iran), Faiq Al Sheikh Ali has, however been a Secular Liberal throughout his life. National Democratic Party (Iraq)
The National Democratic Party ( ar, الحزب الوطني الديمقراطي, ''Hizb al Wataniyah al Dimuqratiyah'') is an Iraqi Secular political party. The party was founded after the 2003 invasion of Iraq, as several Iraqis, including Naseer al-Chaderchi, son of former leader Kamil al-Chaderchi, and Abdel Amir Abbud Rahima, sought to revive the historic National Democratic Party. The party ran in the 2005 Iraqi election and received 36,795 votes, sufficient to win one seat. It lost parliamentary representation in the December 2005 elections, but a leading member, Hashim Abderrahman al-Shibli was nominated as Minister of Justice by the Iraqi National List. The Civilized Alliance (Tamadon) (Arabic: تحالف تمدّن, ''Tahalof Tamadon'') is an Iraqi political alliance formed by a number of civil, liberal & national parties.
