Ciudad del Plata is a city in San José Department of Uruguay. Location The city is bounded by the Santa LucÃa River to the east and north, and by the RÃo de la Plata to the south. Spanning the 23rd to the 39th km of the Route 1 (also known as the "Brigadier General Manuel Oribe Highway"), Ciudad del Plata forms part of the conurbation of the capital Montevideo. Ciudad del Plata has an industrial core. The city is also known for the Jardines de Mater Terra, a private cemetery established 1993. History The whereabouts of Ciudad del Plata were formerly known as ''Rincón de la Bolsa''. It was a group of independent fragments, which became integrated into one populated centre, as a result of the westward expansion of the metropolitan area of Montevideo. Uruguay consists of 19 departments (''departamentos''). Each department has a legislature called a Departmental Board. The ''Intendente'' is the department's chief executive. Uruguay's calling code is +598. Since 2010, national long distance calling was eliminated, thus there are no area codes in each city. Landline telephony ANTEL (Spanish abbreviation for National Administration of Telecommunications) is Uruguay's state-owned company for telecommunications. Previously in Uruguay, phone numbers used to have between 4 and 7 digits. To make a local phone call, you only had to dial those digits. To make a call between two cities from different departments, you had to dial zero, plus area code, plus phone number. The RÃo de la Plata (, "river of silver"), also called the River Plate or La Plata River in English, is the estuary formed by the confluence of the Uruguay River and the Paraná River at Punta Gorda. It empties into the Atlantic Ocean and forms a funnel-shaped indentation on the southeastern coastline of South America. Route 1 (Uruguay)
Route 1 is a national route of Uruguay. In 1975, it was assigned the name Brigadier General Manuel Oribe, a national hero of Uruguay. It connects Montevideo with Colonia del Sacramento to the west along the coast. The road is approximately in length. The distance notation along Route 1 uses the same Kilometre Zero reference as Routes 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and IB, which is the Pillar of Peace of Plaza de Cagancha in the Centro of Montevideo. Route 1 crosses the Santa Lucia River on the border between the departments of Montevideo and San Jose along a modern 4-lane bridge with a length of 800 metres.
