City Loop
The City Loop (originally called the Melbourne Underground Rail Loop or MURL) is a piece of rapid transit, underground commuter rail infrastructure in the Melbourne central business district, central business district (CBD) of Melbourne, Victoria (state), Victoria, Australia. The loop includes three underground stations: Flagstaff railway station, Flagstaff, Melbourne Central railway station, Melbourne Central (formerly Museum) and Parliament railway station, Parliament. The loop connects to Melbourne's two busiest stations, Flinders Street railway station, Flinders Street and Southern Cross railway station, Southern Cross, and together with the Flinders Street Viaduct forms a ring of four individual tracks around the CBD. Yarra River

Metro Tunnel
The Metro Tunnel, formerly known as Melbourne Metro Rail (MMR), is an underground rapid transit project currently under construction in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It involves the construction of twin rail tunnels between South Kensington (north west of the Melbourne central business district) and South Yarra (in the south east) with five new underground stations. The tunnel will connect the Pakenham and Cranbourne lines with the Sunbury line, creating a new high-frequency cross-city line that bypasses Flinders Street station and the City Loop. The line is also planned to serve Melbourne Airport via a new branch line west of Sunshine. The project will enable the operational separation of various existing lines on Melbourne's rail network and increase the capacity of the system to metro-style frequencies. Hoddle Grid
The Hoddle Grid is the contemporary name given to the approximately grid of streets that form the Melbourne central business district, Australia. Bounded by Flinders Street, Spring Street, La Trobe Street, and Spencer Street, it lies at an angle to the rest of the Melbourne suburban grid, and so is easily recognisable. It is named after the surveyor Robert Hoddle, who marked it out in 1837 (to Lonsdale Street, extended to La Trobe Street the next year), based on the city grid established in the first survey of Melbourne conducted by Robert Russell (architect) in 1836, establishing the first formal town plan.
