Cino Tortorella
Felice "Cino" Tortorella (27 June 1927 – 23 March 2017), was an Italian television presenter, best known for creating and conducting the Zecchino d'Oro festival of children's songs. Zecchino d'Oro and Topo Gigio Cino (hypocorism of ''Felice'') Tortorella was born in Ventimiglia, Italy. Tortorella began his career in 1956 with a comedy entitled ''Zurlì, Mago Lipperlì'' ("Zurlì, the almost Magician") and Mago ''Zurlì, il mago del giovedì'' ("Zurlì, the Thursday magician"). Three years later, he inaugurated the Zecchino d'Oro (The Golden Coin) festival, in which he played the role of Mago Zurlì until 1972. He also created several other shows on RAI TV and private Italian networks such as Antenna 3 Lombardia, where in the late '70s and early '80s he was the most important TV director. Zecchino D'Oro
Zecchino d'Oro (; meaning "Golden Sequin") is an annual international children's song competition established in 1959 by Niny Comolli. It is broadcast by Rai 1. The first two contests were held in Milan. In 1961, the contest was taken up by the Antoniano Institute and moved to Bologna. In 2009, Cino Tortorella left Zecchino d'Oro. In 1963, Mariele Ventre, a conductor and director of young performers, created the Piccolo Coro dell'Antoniano Children's Choir (called Piccolo Coro "Mariele Ventre" dell'Antoniano after her death in 1995, and directed by Sabrina Simoni). From 1976, the contest took on an international perspective - each year seven songs performed by Italian contestants and seven by foreign contestants voted for by a children's jury. Antenna 3, formerly known as "''Antenna 3 Lombardia''" and also known as "Antennatre" is a private TV station. It was founded in 1977 by Renzo Villa, a clerk of the municipality of Varese, who became a self made TV publisher. Enzo Tortora, a famous Italian showbiz personality, was instrumental in its founding. Antenna 3 was one of the first Italian private TV stations, born once the state monopoly on television broadcasting was ended by the small TV station Telebiella. In those years Atennatre was the largest out of 1500 private Italian TV stations. Topo Gigio
Topo Gigio () originally known as "COCO GIGIO" was the lead character of a children's puppet show on Italian television in the early 1960s. The character, created in 1958 by artist Maria Perego, her husband Federico Caldura, and fellow artist Guido Stagnaro, debuted on Italian television in 1959 and has been customarily voiced by actor Giuseppe "Peppino" Mazzullo and later Davide Garbolino. The Italian nickname "Gigi" is a derivative of Luigi ("Louis"), so ''Topo Gigio'' could be translated as ''Louie Mouse''. Topo Gigio was very popular in Italy for many years—not only on TV, but also in children's magazines, such as the classical ''Corriere dei Piccoli'', animated cartoons, merchandising and movies.
