Cinisi
Cinisi (; scn, Cìnisi ) is a town and a ''comune'' in the Metropolitan City of Palermo in Sicily. As of 1 January 2022 it has a population of 11.846. Geography The town is part of the Palermo metropolitan area, borders with the municipalities of Carini and Terrasini and count the civil parish (''frazione'') of Punta Raisi, seat of Palermo Airport. It is from Palermo centre, from Trapani and from Alcamo. Climate Culture Cinisi is famous, among other things, for the Carnivale parade with many papier-mâché floats. These floats are created every year by a group of young residents who come together and brainstorm their ideas. Carnivale in Cinisi every year has a different theme and the community is to go along with it. Giuseppe Impastato
Giuseppe "Peppino" Impastato (; January 5, 1948 – May 9, 1978), was an Italian political activist who opposed the Mafia, which ordered his murder in 1978. Childhood Giuseppe "Peppino" Impastato was born in Cinisi, in the then province of Palermo, into a Mafia family. His father had been sent into internal exile during the fascist era, and was a close friend of Mafia boss Gaetano Badalamenti. His father's brother-in-law, Cesare Manzella, was an important Mafia boss who was killed in car bomb attack in 1963. Gaetano Badalamenti (; 14 September 1923 – 29 April 2004) was a powerful member of the Sicilian Mafia. ''Don Tano'' Badalamenti was the capofamiglia of his hometown Cinisi, Sicily, and headed the Sicilian Mafia Commission in the 1970s. Punta Raisi railway station ( it, Stazione di Punta Raisi), is located within Palermo Airport ( it, Aeroporto di Palermo "Falcone e Borsellino") (IATA airport code, IATA code: PMO) in Cinisi, near Palermo, Sicily, insular Italy, Italy. Giovanni Meli
Giovanni Meli (4 March 1740 – 20 December 1815) was an Italian poet. Meli was born in Palermo. , after studying philosophy and medicine he worked as a doctor in Cinisi in the province of Palermo. It was during this early period of his life that he discovered the bucolic poets and the poetic value of his native Sicilian language, which he used thereafter in all of his literary works. Works His first published piece, ''La Bucolica'' (1766-1772), was inspired by ''Arcadia'' by Jacopo Sannazaro. It was written while he was still working as a doctor in Cinisi. He returned to Palermo soon after, already widely known as a scientist and poet. He dedicated the rest of his life to both collecting works of Sicilian poetry, but most importantly, writing and publishing his own works. ''I cento passi'' (English: ''One Hundred Steps'' or ''The Hundred Steps'') is an Italian film released in 2000, directed by Marco Tullio Giordana about the life of Peppino Impastato, a left-wing political activist who opposed the Mafia in Sicily. Terrasini is a town and ''comune'' in the Metropolitan City of Palermo on the island of Sicily in Italy.
