Cinderella Stakes
The Cinderella Stakes is an American Thoroughbred horse race run annually at Hollywood Park Racetrack in Inglewood, California. It is open to two-year-old fillies and is contested on Cushion Track synthetic dirt over a distance of five and one half furlongs. The Listed race currently offers a purse of $70,000 added. Inaugurated in the fall of 1950 as a race for three-year-old fillies and set at a distance of a mile and one-sixteenth, the first winner was Alfred G. Vanderbilt's filly Next Move who went on to earn that year's American Champion Three-Year-Old Filly honors. Thoroughbred racing is a sport and industry involving the racing of Thoroughbred horses. It is governed by different national bodies. Hollywood Park Racetrack
Hollywood Park was a thoroughbred race course located in Inglewood, California, about 3 miles (5 km) from Los Angeles International Airport and adjacent to the Forum indoor arena. In 1994, the original Hollywood Park Casino was added to the racetrack complex. Horse racing and training were shut down in December 2013 though the casino operations continued until a new state of the art casino building, the new Hollywood Park Casino, opened in October 2016. The track was demolished in stages from 2014 until 2016 and the area is now the site of a master-planned neighborhood in development named Hollywood Park after the former track. A filly is a female horse that is too young to be called a mare. American Champion Three-Year-Old Filly
The American Champion Three-Year-Old Filly is an American Thoroughbred horse racing honor awarded annually to a female horse in Thoroughbred flat racing. It became part of the Eclipse Awards program in 1971. The award originated in 1936 when both the ''Daily Racing Form'' (DRF) and Turf and Sports Digest (TSD) magazine began naming an annual champion. Starting in 1950, the Thoroughbred Racing Associations (TRA) began naming its own champion. The following list provides the name of the horses chosen by these organizations. There were several disagreements, with more than one champion being recognized on five occasions. In 1949, two Calumet Farm fillies, Wistful and Two Lea, shared the Champion's title after finishing equal top of the Daily Racing Form poll. Joseph Talamo
Joseph "Joe" Talamo (born January 12, 1990 in Marrero, Louisiana) is a Champion jockey in American Thoroughbred horse racing. Born and raised in Marrero on the West Bank of the Mississippi River, within the Greater New Orleans Metropolitan area, Joe Talamo was influenced by a father who worked in horse racing as an assistant trainer. At age eleven, he began riding horses and worked as a stable boy. Like many successful Cajun jockeys before him, Talamo first raced at a bush track. His skills and desire was such that he decided to leave high school in order to pursue a professional riding career. He debuted at Louisiana Downs in June 2006 and went on to become the first apprentice jockey to win a riding title at the Fair Grounds Race Course in New Orleans. Golden Ballet (foaled January 24, 1998) is an American Thoroughbred racehorse and the winner of the 2001 Santa Anita Oaks. Career Golden Ballet's first race was on March 23, 2000, where she came in third at Santa Anita. She got her first win in her fourth race, when she won the Nursery Stakes at Hollywood Park Racetrack on May 20, 2000. This race began a five race win streak for Golden Ballet. Golden Ballet's next win was at the June 18, 2000, Cinderella Stakes. She then picked up her first graded win by capturing the January 20th, 2001, Santa Ynez Stakes. She then captured a pair of grade 1 wins, by winning the 2001 Las Virgenes Stakes and the 2001 Santa Anita Oaks. Her winstreak snapped when she ran second in the April 7, 2001, Ashland Stakes.
