Cincinnati Limited
The ''Cincinnati Limited'' was a named train of the Pennsylvania Railroad; the train traveled from New York City's Pennsylvania Station to the Cincinnati Union Terminal. It was a rival to New York Central's ''Ohio State Limited''. The ''Cincinnati Limited'' carried connecting sleeping cars to the Louisville and Nashville Railroad's Cincinnati to New Orleans ''Pan American''. By the mid-1950s, the sleeper extension on L&N lines ended at Memphis instead of New Orleans. The train was sustained into the era of the Penn Central, the successor of the Pennsylvania Railroad. Both the ''Cincinnati Limited'' and the ''Pan American'' ended service on April 30, 1971, as passenger trains moved over to Amtrak. Ohio State Limited
The ''Ohio State Limited'' was a named passenger train operated by the New York Central Railroad (NYC) between New York City and Cincinnati, Ohio, via Buffalo and Cleveland, Ohio. Service began in 1924 and continued until 1967, with some vestiges remaining until 1971. History NYC began the ''Ohio State Limited'' on April 27, 1924. The new service departed Grand Central Terminal at 3 PM, just after the '' 20th Century Limited'', with a scheduled arrival in Cincinnati of 9:30 AM the following morning. A section of the train split at Cleveland, Ohio to serve Toledo, Ohio, while the Boston & Albany Railroad exchanged through cars for Boston, Massachusetts at Albany, New York. Union Station (Columbus, Ohio)
Columbus Union Station was an intercity train station in Downtown Columbus, Ohio, near The Short North neighborhood. The station and its predecessors served railroad passengers in Columbus from 1851 until April 28, 1977. The first station building was the first union station in the world, built in 1851. Its replacement was built from 1873 to 1875, just before demolition of the first station building. After traffic problems on High Street, as well as increased rail traffic became problematic, a new station was planned by Daniel Burnham beginning in 1893. The new station opened in 1897, and its arcade along High Street was finished in 1899. By 1928, part of the arcade was demolished. Passenger service significantly declined from the 1950s to the 1970s. Pittsburgh Union Station
Union Station (or Pennsylvania Station, commonly called Penn Station) is a historic train station in Downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States. It was one of several passenger rail stations that served Pittsburgh during the 20th century (other stations included the Pittsburgh & Lake Erie Railroad Station, the Baltimore and Ohio Station and Wabash Pittsburgh Terminal), and it is the only surviving station in active use. The historic station was designed by Chicago architect Daniel Burnham and built from 1898 to 1904. Altoona Transportation Center
The Altoona Transportation Center is an intermodal passenger facility built in 1986 providing local bus, intercity bus, and rail services. It is located at 1231 11th Avenue in downtown Altoona, Pennsylvania. It replaced the original PRR Altoona station built in the 1880s. The Transportation Center's modernist-influenced main building is built into the lower levels of a parking garage and connects to a network of pedestrian bridges which criss-cross the busy roads and tracks surrounding the facility. The Center also features a 300-foot-long bus platform capable of serving up to ten buses at once. The interior of the Center features a melt shop and a branch of the Altoona Area Public Library. Lewistown Station
Lewistown station is an Amtrak railway station located about 60 miles northwest of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania at PA 103 and Helen Street in Lewistown, Mifflin County, Pennsylvania. The station is actually located across the Juniata River from Lewistown proper, a little less than one mile south of the center of the borough. It is currently only served by Amtrak's '' Pennsylvanian'', which operates once per day in each direction, though until 2005, Lewistown was served by a second daily train, the '' Three Rivers'' (a replacement service for the legendary ''Broadway Limited''), an extended version of the ''Pennsylvanian'' that terminated in Chicago. Penn Texas
The ''Penn Texas'' was a named passenger train of the Pennsylvania Railroad that ran from New York City's Pennsylvania Station to St. Louis' Union Station from 1948 to 1970. The train also had a branch from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to Washington, D.C., via York, Pennsylvania and Baltimore, Maryland. The train offered sleeping cars that would run continuous to different Texas branches to El Paso, Houston and San Antonio over the Missouri Pacific's ''Texas Eagle.'' Accordingly, this service was the longest distance that an American railroad offered for through sleeper service to the east coast, with exception of trains running from California to New York. The ''Pan-American'' was a passenger train operated by the Louisville and Nashville Railroad (L&N) between Cincinnati, Ohio and New Orleans, Louisiana. It operated from 1921 until 1971.
