The Church of St. Mary of the Angels is a Roman Catholic church (building), church in Singapore completed in 2004. It is located in the Bukit Batok, Bukit Batok Planning Area, within the West Region, Singapore, West Region of Singapore. The church is home to both a parish community and Franciscans, Franciscan monastery. Currently, the parish is home to some 8,500 parishioners. History It grew out of the work of a group of Franciscan friars in the 1950s. The building was awarded the Singapore Institute of Architects Religious Building category award in 2004, and Design of the Year award at the first President's Design Award in 2006. It was designed by Singapore-based WOHA, WOHA Architects. The Archdiocese of Singapore (Latin: ''Archidioecesis Singaporensis'') is an exempt archdiocese of the Latin Church of the Catholic Church. William Goh
William Goh Seng Chye (born 25 June 1957) is a Singaporean prelate of the Catholic Church who has been serving as the fourth Archbishop of Singapore since 2013. He was created a cardinal by Pope Francis on 27 August 2022. Biography Early life and education Born in Singapore, Goh attended Montfort Junior School and Montfort Secondary School in Hougang, where he lived. He furthered his studies in philosophy at the Major Seminary (College General) and did his theological studies at the Major Seminary in Singapore. Goh is from the first cohort of seminarians to graduate from the newly built St Francis Xavier Major Seminary in Punggol. After his graduation, he was posted to the Church of the Holy Cross where he served as an assistant priest to Nicholas Chia (later archbishop of Singapore). Bukit Batok
Bukit Batok, often abbreviated as Bt Batok, is a planning area and matured residential town located along the eastern boundary of the West Region of Singapore. Bukit Batok statistically ranks in as the 25th largest, the 12th most populous and the 11th most densely populated planning area in the Republic. It is bordered by six other planning areas - Choa Chu Kang to the North, northeast and northwest, Cashew to the northeast and east, Clementi to the south, Bukit Timah to the southeast, Jurong East to the southwest and Tengah to the west. Bukit Batok largely sits on Gombak norite, a geological formation that is found in high concentrations within the planning area itself, as well as in the western parts of neighbouring Cashew. Christians in Singapore constitute 18.9% of the country's population. In 2020, about 37.1% of the country's Christians identified as Catholic and 62.9% as 'Other Christians' (chiefly Protestants).
