Chun Jung-bae
Chun Jung-bae (; born 12 December 1954) is a South Korean politician who was the joint chairman of the People's Party, alongside Ahn Cheol-soo. He is a member of the National Assembly for Seo District in Gwangju since 2015, having previously represented Ansan from 1996 to 2012. He served as Minister of Justice from 2005 to 2006 under President Roh Moo-hyun. Chun was credited with securing Roh's victory in the 2002 presidential election and, as floor leader of Roh's Uri Party, the party's subsequent majority in the 2004 legislative election. In 2007, Chun defected from the Uri Party to the United New Democratic Party after entering into conflict with other members of the pro-Roh group, including then-presidential chief of staff Moon Jae-in. New Alternatives
The New Alternatives (Korean: 대안신당) was a South Korean political party founded in 2020. History The New Alternatives was originally organised by the conservative dissidents of the Party for Democracy and Peace (PDP) on 16 July 2019, as the Alternative Political Alliance of Change and Hope (Korean: 변화와 희망의 대안정치연대). It was initially a part of PDP, but then split from PDP on 12 August. It was refounded as a preparatory committee on 17 November, with the current name. It contains 8 MPs but one of them ( Chang Jung-sook) is a PR of Bareunmirae Party who would like to exit. Lee Yong-joo and Chung In-hwa was excluded. On 12 January 2020, it held the official formation convention and elected Choi Gyung-hwan as its president. It planned to be the largest party in the 2020 election. Kim Doo-kwan
Kim Doo-kwan ( ko, 김두관, RR: ''Gim Du-gwan'', Hanja: 金斗官; born 10 April 1959) is a South Korean Democratic United Party politician, former civil servant, and former governor of South Gyeongsang Province. He was elected governor in the 2010 local elections as an independent after two previous unsuccessful attempts. He served as Minister for Home Affairs under the administration of Roh Moo-hyun, and at one point was seen as a potential contender for the DUP nomination in the 2012 presidential election. Democratic United Party
The Democratic Party (; DP), formerly the Democratic United Party (; DUP) until 2013, was a liberal political party in South Korea, and for the duration of its existence the country's main opposition force. On 15 December 2011, the Democratic Party, which had been the main opposition in the 18th Assembly, merged with the minor Citizens Unity Party to form the DUP. The Democratic United Party had strong connections with the Federation of Korean Trade Unions. The forming of the party took place against the background of the forthcoming April 2012 legislative election, in which the centre-left opposition sought to defeat the ruling Saenuri Party. 2012 South Korean Legislative Election
Legislative elections were held in South Korea on 11 April 2012. The election was won by the ruling Saenuri or New Frontier Party, which renewed its majority in the National Assembly, despite losing seats. The election has been read as a bellwether for the presidential election to be held later in the year. The result confounded exit polls and media analysis, which had predicted a closer outcome. Moon Jae-in
Moon Jae-in (; ; born 24 January 1953) is a South Korean former politician, civil servant and lawyer who served as the 12th president of South Korea between 2017 and 2022. Prior to his presidency, he served as Senior Secretary for Civil Affairs and Chief of Staff to President Roh Moo-hyun, Member of the National Assembly, and Leader of the Democratic Party of Korea. Born to North Korean refugees of House of Moon in Hamhung, Moon was raised in poverty in the southern port city of Busan. He excelled in school and studied law at Kyung Hee University. He became a lawyer and later involved in human rights activism with Roh Moo-hyun. He was imprisoned for organizing a protest against the Yushin Constitution. United New Democratic Party
The Grand Unified Democratic New Party (; GUDNP) was a political party of South Korea. It was formed out of the Uri Party and its resulting splinter groups. Chung Dong-young was the UNDP candidate in the 2007 South Korean presidential election; he lost to Lee Myung-bak. On February 17, 2008, the party merged with the Democratic Party to form the United Democratic Party. Brief history The party was formed when loyalists to president Roh Moo-hyun in the Uri Party chose to break ranks from other party members who showed lukewarm support for the administration. 2004 South Korean Legislative Election
Legislative elections were held in South Korea on April 15, 2004. In the 17th election for the National Assembly, voters elected 299 members of the legislature. The newly formed Uri Party and other parties supporting President Roh Moo-hyun, who was impeached by the outgoing National Assembly, won a majority of seats. This was the first time a centre-left liberal party won a majority in the National Assembly. Uri Party
The Yeollin Uri Party (), generally abbreviated to Uri Party (), was the ruling political party in South Korea from 2003–2007. It had a liberal political ideology in order to support then President Roh Moo-hyun. Chung Sye Kyun was the last leader of the party and twice served as its chairman. In 2007 the party merged the United New Democratic Party to form the Democratic Party. The current-day descendant of the party is the Democratic Party of Korea, but progressives in the party have become members of the Justice Party.
