Chueca
Chueca is an area of central Madrid, named after its main square, Plaza de Chueca. It is known as Madrid's gay neighborhood. Plaza de Chueca was named after Spanish composer and author Federico Chueca. It is located in the administrative ward in the central Madrid neighbourhood of Justicia. Chueca is very lively, with many street cafes and boutique shops. ''Lonely Planet'' describes it as "extravagantly gay, lively young, and always inclusive regardless of your sexual orientation." Federico Chueca
Pío Estanislao Federico Chueca y Robres (5 May 1846 – 20 June 1908) was a Spanish composer of ''zarzuelas'' and author of ''La gran vía'' along with Joaquín Valverde Durán in 1886. He was one of the most prominent figures of the género chico. Career Born in Madrid, Chueca entered the conservatory at eight years old, but his family later obligated him to abandon music to study medicine. He was arrested in 1866 as a participant in the student demonstrations against the Narváez government. While he spent three days in the prison of San Francisco in Madrid, he composed several waltzes that he entitled ''Lamentos de un preso'' ("Lamentations of a Prisoner"). Later, Francisco Asenjo Barbieri helped orchestrate and direct the works, and their success helped Chueca leave medicine and devote himself once more to music. ''Boystown'' ( es, Chuecatown, links=no) is a 2007 Spanish comedy film directed by from a screenplay by Flahn, Félix Sabroso and Dunia Ayaso. Synopsis The plot focuses on the neighborhood of Chueca that is located in Madrid. Victor, an owner of a real-estate company, wants to have a monopoly over all the apartments in Chueca, in order to turn it into the Madrid version of the Castro district in San Francisco, but the apartments are owned by senior citizens that do not want to sell to him. Víctor decides to take matters into his own hands and murder anyone that stands in his way. Everything is going Víctor's way until Rey and Luis, a gay couple, inherit the apartment of Víctor's latest victim. Víctor tries to buy the apartment from Rey but he refuses to sell it because he wants his mother, Doña Antonia, to move into the apartment.
