Chuco (genus)
''Theraps'' is a genus of cichlid fish found in moderately to fast-flowing rivers and streams on the Atlantic slope of southern Mexico and northern Central America. They are medium-sized cichlids. Species and taxonomy Historically, ''Theraps'' was included in ''Cichlasoma''. Once recognized as its own genus, it sometimes included a wide range of species now known to belong in other genera, including ''Cincelichthys'', '' Chortiheros'', '' Chuco'', ''Cryptoheros'', ''Kihnichthys'', '' Oscura'', ''Paraneetroplus'', ''Rheoheros'', ''Talamancaheros'', ''Tomocichla'' and ''Wajpamheros''. In a major review of 2015, only five species remained in this genus, but in 2016 it was shown that four of these were not close relatives of the ''Theraps'' type species, ''T. irregularis'', resulting in them being moved to ''Chuco'' and ''Wajpamheros''. As a consequence, Catalog of Fishes now recognizes ''Theraps'' as only including the type species ''T. irregularis'', but FishBase include both it and ...

Cribroheros
''Cribroheros'' is a genus of cichlid found in Middle America. These freshwater fish are distributed over most of Middle America, from western Panama to southern Mexico, on both Atlantic and Pacific slopes. Depending on species, their habitat ranges from fast-flowing rivers and streams, to slow-moving or standing water such as ponds and lakes. Although the genus is overall widespread, the individual species tend to have more restricted distributions and some are threatened, especially due to habitat loss and pollution. They reach up to in standard length. Species There are currently 8 recognized species in this genus: * '' Cribroheros alfari'' (Meek, 1907) (Pastel cichlid) * '' Cribroheros altifrons'' ( Kner, 1863) * '' Cribroheros bussingi'' ( Loiselle, 1997) * '' Cribroheros diquis'' ( W. A. Bussing, 1974) * '' Cribroheros longimanus'' ( Günther, 1867) (Red-breast cichlid) * '' Cribroheros rhytisma'' ( López S., 1983) * '' Cribroheros robertsoni'' (Regan The family nam ...

Talamancaheros
''Talamancaheros'' is a genus of cichlid fish found in fast- and moderately-flowing rivers on the Pacific slope of the Talamanca mountains of Costa Rica and western Panama. ''Talamancaheros'' reaches up to in standard length. Species and taxonomy Before the genus ''Talamancaheros'' was recognized, these species had been placed in several other genera, including ''Cichlasoma'', '' Heros'', ''Theraps'', ''Tomocichla'' and others, but they are not particularly closely related to any of these. The nearest relative of ''Talamancaheros'' is ''Isthmoheros tuyrensis''. There are currently two recognized species in this genus: * ''Talamancaheros sieboldii'' ( Kner, 1863) (Siebold's cichlid) * ''Talamancaheros underwoodi'' (Regan The family name Regan, along with its cognates O'Regan, O Regan, Reagan, and O'Reagan, is an Anglicized form of the Irish surname Ó Riagáin or Ó Ríogáin, from Ua Riagáin. Heroini
Heroini is a fish tribe from the Cichlasomatinae subfamily in the cichlid family. All cichlids native to the Greater Antilles, United States (southern Texas), Mexico and northern Central America are members of this tribe. It also includes most cichlid species in southern Central America (where only non-Heroini cichlids are ''Andinoacara'' and ''Geophagus'') and several species from South America (where several other tribes exist). A large percentage of its species were formerly placed in the genus ''Cichlasoma'' (itself now placed in the tribe Cichlasomatini), but have since been moved to other genera. In other classifications the tribe Heroini is placed in the subfamily Cichlinae. Abstract Genera This tribe include about 35 genus and 160 species: * '' Amatitlania'' Schmitter-Soto, 2007 * ''Amphilophus'' Agassiz, 1859 * '' Archocentrus'' Gill, 1877 * ''Astatheros'' Pellegrin, 1904 * ''Australoheros'' Říčan & Kullander, 2006 * ''Caquetaia'' Fowler, 1945 * ''Chiapaheros'' M ...

Monophyletic
In cladistics for a group of organisms, monophyly is the condition of being a clade—that is, a group of taxa composed only of a common ancestor (or more precisely an ancestral population) and all of its lineal descendants. Monophyletic groups are typically characterised by shared derived characteristics ( synapomorphies), which distinguish organisms in the clade from other organisms. An equivalent term is holophyly. The word "mono-phyly" means "one-tribe" in Greek. Monophyly is contrasted with paraphyly and polyphyly as shown in the second diagram. A ''paraphyletic group'' consists of all of the descendants of a common ancestor minus one or more monophyletic groups. A '' polyphyletic group'' is characterized by convergent features or habits of scientific interest (for example, night-active primates, fruit trees, aquatic insects). The features by which a polyphyletic group is differentiated from others are not inherited from a common ancestor. These definitions have tak ...

Catalog Of Fishes
Catalog of Fishes is a comprehensive on-line database and reference work on the scientific names of fish species and genera. It is global in its scope and is hosted by the California Academy of Sciences. It has been compiled and is continuously updated by the curator emeritus of the CAS fish collection, William N. Eschmeyer. The taxonomy maintained by the Catalog of Fishes is considered authoritative and it is used as a baseline reference for instance by the broader global fish database FishBase, which involves cross-references to the Catalog's information for all accepted taxa. , the searchable catalogue contains entries for about 58,300 fish species names, about 33,400 of which are currently accepted (valid), and for some 10,600 genera (5,100 valid).Biodiversity Information Proje ...

Type Species
In zoological nomenclature, a type species (''species typica'') is the species name with which the name of a genus or subgenus is considered to be permanently taxonomically associated, i.e., the species that contains the biological type specimen(s). Article 67.1 A similar concept is used for suprageneric groups and called a type genus. In botanical nomenclature, these terms have no formal standing under the code of nomenclature, but are sometimes borrowed from zoological nomenclature. In botany, the type of a genus name is a specimen (or, rarely, an illustration) which is also the type of a species name. The species name that has that type can also be referred to as the type of the genus name. Names of genus and family ranks, the various subdivisions of those ranks, and some higher-rank names based on genus names, have such types.
