Christoph Simon
Christoph Simon (born 1972, Emmental, Switzerland) is a Swiss writer. After travelling in the Middle East, Poland, South America, London and New York, he settled in Berne. His first novel, ''Franz, or Why Antelopes Run in Herds'' (2001) has sold over 10,000 copies, while ''Planet Obrist'' (2005) was nominated for the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize. ''Zbinden’s Progress'' is his fourth novel and was translated into English and published by And Other Stories in 2012. Life Christoph Simon attended high school in Thun and the Jazz School in Bern. Later he traveled to Israel, Jordan, Egypt, Poland, South America, London and New York. He broke off his studies in Basel in 1997 and began to write, while doing various temporary jobs (post office, bank). He now lives as a freelance writer in Bern. A bracket is either of two tall fore- or back-facing punctuation marks commonly used to isolate a segment of text or data from its surroundings. Emmental
The Emmental ( en, Emme Valley) is a valley in west-central Switzerland, forming part of the canton of Bern. It is a hilly landscape comprising the basins of the rivers Emme and Ilfis. The region is mostly devoted to farming, particularly dairy farming. The principal settlements are the town of Burgdorf and the village of Langnau. Comprising Burgdorf, Trachselwald, and Signau districts in the canton of Bern, the Emmental became part of the Emmental-Oberaargau administrative region on 1 January 2010. The district of Fraubrunnen is divided between Emmental and Bern-Mittelland. Geography The region comprises relatively low mountains on the right bank of the Aare. It includes the basins of the Emme and the Ilfis between Burgdorf and the boundary with the canton of Solothurn. Ingeborg Bachmann Prize
The Festival of German-Language Literature (german: Tage der deutschsprachigen Literatur, links=no) is a literary event which takes place annually in Klagenfurt, Austria. During this major literary festival which lasts for several days a number of awards are given, the major one being the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize, first awarded in 1977 and one of the most important awards for literature in the German language. History In the mid seventies, the journalist and writer Humbert Fink and the chairman of the Austrian Radio and TV (ORF) studio in Carinthia at that time, Ernst Willner, decided to establish a literary competition based on an event held by Gruppe 47. They were able to enlist Marcel Reich-Ranicki amongst others onto the original jury. And Other Stories is an independent British book publisher founded in 2009, notable for being the first UK publisher of literary fiction to make direct, advance subscriptions a major part of its business model as well as for its use of foreign language reading groups to choose the books that it publishes. The company originally operated from High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, but is now based in Sheffield, South Yorkshire.
