Christian Piot
Christian Piot (born 4 October 1947 in Ougrée) is a retired Belgian football goalkeeper who won the Belgian Golden Shoe in 1972 while at Standard Liège. He played 40 times and scored 1 goal for the national team between 1969 and 1977, starting in a 0–4 defeat to Yugoslavia on 19 October 1969. Piot was in the team for the 1970 World Cup and for the Euro 1972. Ougrée ( wa, Ougrêye) is a town of Wallonia and a district of the municipality of Seraing, located in the province of Liège, Belgium. It was a separate municipality before the merging of municipalities in 1977. Olympic swimmers Béatrice Mottoulle and Chantal Grimard were both born here. The Belgian Cup is a knockout competition for football clubs in Belgian football, organized by the Royal Belgian Football Association. It was first unofficially organized in 1908 as a tournament between teams representing the various Provinces of Belgium, with players from the various clubs reallocated into teams based on their province of origin, with the team representing West Flanders defeating the Antwerp team in the first edition final. The first club edition of the Belgian Cup occurred during the 1911–12 season. Stadio Olimpico
The Stadio Olimpico (English: ''Olympic Stadium'') is the largest sports facility in Rome, Italy, seating over 70,000 spectators. It is located within the Foro Italico sports complex, north of the city. The structure is owned by the Italian National Olympic Committee and it is used primarily for association football. The Stadio Olimpico is the home stadium of the Roma and Lazio football clubs, and also hosts the Coppa Italia final. It was rebuilt for the 1990 FIFA World Cup and it hosted the tournament final. The final tournament of UEFA Euro 1972 was a single-elimination tournament involving the four teams that qualified from the quarter-finals. There were two rounds of matches: a semi-final stage leading to the final to decide the champions. The final tournament began with the semi-finals on 14 June and ended with the final on 18 June at Heysel Stadium in Brussels. West Germany won the tournament with a 3–0 victory over the Soviet Union. UEFA Euro 1972
The 1972 UEFA European Football Championship final tournament was held in Belgium. This was the fourth UEFA European Championship, held every four years and endorsed by UEFA. The final tournament took place between 14 and 18 June 1972. Only four countries played in the final tournament, with the tournament consisting of the semi-finals, a third place play-off, and the final. The hosts were only announced after the qualifying round, which meant all teams had to participate in the qualification process for the final stage. Belgium was chosen among three candidates; the other bids came from England and Italy, whose teams did not reach the semi-finals. West Germany won the tournament, beating the Soviet Union 3–0 in the final, with goals coming from Gerd Müller (twice) and Herbert Wimmer at the Heysel Stadium in Brussels.
