Christian Carion
Christian Carion (born 4 January 1963) is a French film director, dialogue writer and screenwriter, gaining international attention for ''Joyeux Noël (Merry Christmas)'', which was nominated for several awards, including the 2005 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Life and career Christian Carion was born into a family of farmers in the north of France. Carion's youth was spent in his parents' farm fields, where he was constantly reminded of World War I as the family often found dangerous, unexploded shells left over from the conflicts in the fields. He had also heard of the stories in which French soldiers would leave their trenches at night to meet with their wives in the surrounding German-occupied towns and return to fight the next morning. After passing his baccalauréat, he joined an engineering school affiliated to the French ministry of agriculture. Guillaume Canet (; born 10 April 1973) is a French actor, film director and screenwriter, and show jumper. Canet began his career in theatre and television before moving to film. He starred in several films like ''Joyeux Noël'', '' Love Me If You Dare'' and '' The Beach''. In 2006, he turned to writing and directing with ''Tell No One'' and won a César Award for Best Director. The European Film Academy Lux Award is a prize given to a competing film by the European Parliament and the European Film Academy. It is one of the European Film Awards, which were established to recognize excellence in European cinematic achievements. Previously known as the People's Choice Award for Best European Film, it was first awarded in 1997 with Peter Cattaneo's film ''The Full Monty'' being the first recipient of the award. The Leeds International Film Festival (LIFF) is the largest film festival in England outside London. Founded in 1987, it is held in November at various venues throughout Leeds, West Yorkshire.
