Christiaan Van Lennep
Christiaan van Lennep (; 3 January 1887 – 5 December 1955) was a Dutch tennis player and multiple Dutch champion. He won the singles title at the Dutch National Tennis Championships in 1905, 1907, 1919, 1921, 1925 and 1926. He was also a seven times doubles champion. Van Lennep participated in the singles and doubles events at the 1908 and 1924 Olympics. His best result was reaching the third round in the singles event at the 1924 Olympics in Paris. In the third round he lost to American Watson Washburn by three sets to one. He reached the final of the singles event at the inaugural British Hard Court Championships, played in Torquay in April 1924, in which he was defeated by Randolph Lycett in four sets. He was more successful in international doubles competitions as he reached the semifinal of the 1926 Wimbledon Championships partnering Béla von Kehrling. Tennis is a racket sport that is played either individually against a single opponent ( singles) or between two teams of two players each ( doubles). Each player uses a tennis racket that is strung with cord to strike a hollow rubber ball covered with felt over or around a net and into the opponent's court. The object of the game is to manoeuvre the ball in such a way that the opponent is not able to play a valid return. The player who is unable to return the ball validly will not gain a point, while the opposite player will. Tennis is an Olympic sport and is played at all levels of society and at all ages. Jacob Van Lennep
Jacob van Lennep (24 March 1802 – 25 August 1868) was a Dutch poet and novelist. Early years He was born in Amsterdam, where his father, David Jacob van Lennep (1774–1853), a scholar and poet, was professor of eloquence and the classical languages in the Atheneum. He spent his summers at Huis te Manpad, where his family had a summer home, and where his father convinced the Heemstede city council to place a monument to Witte van Haemstede. This colorful monument influenced him to later write a song about it. Lennep took the degree of doctor of laws at Leiden, and then settled as an advocate in Amsterdam. Poetry His first poetical efforts had been translations from Byron, of whom he was an ardent admirer, and in 1826 he published a collection of original ''Academische Idyllen'' cademic Idylls which had some success. The Davis Cup is the premier international team event in men's tennis. It is run by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and is contested annually between teams from competing countries in a knock-out format. It is described by the organisers as the "World Cup of Tennis", and the winners are referred to as the World Champion team. Béla Von Kehrling
Béla von Kehrling ( hu, Kehrling Béla ; 25 January 1891 – 26 April 1937) was a Hungarian tennis, table tennis, and football player but eventually a winter sportsman familiar with ice-hockey and occasionally competing in bobsleigh. He competed at the 1912 Summer Olympics and the 1924 Summer Olympics. Career Kehrling like Fred Perry, he played both tennis and table tennis professionally. In 1926 he played in the first table tennis World Championships final in London with Zoltán Mechlovits in doubles but lost to Roland Jacobi (who won the singles title) and Dániel Pécsi. He was also featured in the Hungarian team that won gold in team competition. Originally he wasn't part of the national team. While the Hungarians unanimously swept all of the medals after Roland Jacobi's singles and doubles success he suddenly been reported of the death of his father thus he decided to travel home.
