Chornobaivka
Chornobaivka ( uk, Чорнобаївка, Chornobayivka, ) is a suburban village in Kherson Raion, Kherson Oblast, southern Ukraine. It is the center of the village council. It hosts the administration of the Chornobaivka rural hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine. Kherson International Airport is situated in Chornobaivka. History Founding Chornobaivka was founded officially on August 18, 1782, by the Zaporozhian Sich Cossack Petro Chornobay, after he received a plot of land from Catherine II. The settlement's name is derived from him. Development Chornobaivka grew slowly. From the documents of the Kherson provincial zemstvo, it is known that in 1859 the village had 60 yards, in which 239 people lived. The main income of Chornobaivka's inhabitants was the extraction of limestone. There were no trade enterprises on the farms at that time, except for wine shops. Healthcare resources were limited. 2022 Chornobaivka Attacks
The 2022 Chornobaivka attacks were a series of Ukrainian attacks against the Russian-held Kherson International Airport at Chornobaivka, which began on 27 February 2022 during the southern Ukraine campaign of the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. Chornobaivka, located in Ukraine's Kherson Oblast, saw dozens of attacks on Russian positions by the Ukrainian Armed Forces following a bombing and takeover by the Russian Armed Forces of the town's airport. According to Ukraine, these attacks resulted in the death of the Russian general Yakov Rezantsev of the 49th Combined Arms Army on 24 March. Russian general Andrey Mordvichev of the 8th Guards Combined Arms Army was also reported killed in an attack on 18 March, but was later confirmed to still be alive. Yakov Rezantsev
Yakov Vladimirovich Rezantsev (russian: Яков Владимирович Резанцев; 4 January 1973) was a Russian lieutenant general (two-star rank). He has commanded the 49th Army of the Southern Military District. According to Ukrainian officials, he was killed in Chornobaivka near Kherson (Ukraine) during the 2022 Chornobaivka attacks of the Russian invasion of Ukraine; Russian sources have not confirmed his death.
