Choosey
Choosey is an American hip hop artist based in Los Angeles who grew up in National City and Chula Vista, California. His debut studio album ''Black Beans'' (2019), produced by Exile, represented his Afro-Chicano heritage and conveyed themes of ethnic identity, gentrification, and Black-brown unity. The album received positive reviews and was referred to as a "masterpiece" by NBC News and a "breath of fresh air" by HipHopDX. Personal life Choosey's grandfather Tata Vasquez was involved in the Latin Jazz scene of Los Angeles, playing in Eddie Cano’s band and appearing in the film Rock Around The Clock (1956). Chicano
Chicano or Chicana is a chosen identity for many Mexican Americans in the United States. The label ''Chicano'' is sometimes used interchangeably with ''Mexican American'', although the terms have different meanings. While Mexican-American identity was related to encouraging Cultural assimilation, assimilation into White Americans, White American society and separating the community from the African Americans, African-American political struggle, Chicano identity emerged among anti-assimilationist youth. Blaxican
Blaxicans are people who are both Black and Mexican American. Some may prefer to identify as Afro-Chicano or Black Chicana/o and embrace Chicano identity, culture, and political consciousness. Most Blaxicans have origins in working class community interactions between African Americans and Mexican Americans. Los Angeles has been cited as the hub for Blaxican culture. In 2010, it was recorded that 42,000 people in Los Angeles County identified as both Black and Latino, most of whom are believed to be both Black and Mexican American. Exile (producer)
Aleksander Thomas Manfredi, better known by his stage name Exile, is an American record producer, disc jockey and occasional rapper. Aside from his solo career, he is a member of the musical groups Emanon alongside Aloe Blacc, as well as Blu & Exile. Career Exile's first record appearances were as a member of the hip hop duo Emanon with the rapper Aloe Blacc. They released various mixtapes beginning in 1995 with "Stretch Marx" before releasing their first album, ''Anon & On''. Latin jazz is a genre of jazz with Latin American rhythms. Mariachi
Mariachi (, , ) is a genre of regional Mexican music that dates back to at least the 18th century, evolving over time in the countryside of various regions of western Mexico. The usual mariachi group today consists of as many as eight violins, two trumpets and at least one guitar, including a high-pitched vihuela and an acoustic bass guitar called a guitarrón, and all players taking turns singing lead and doing backup vocals. Remezcla is an American media company focusing on the Latin American cultural sphere. It serves the millennial market. History The brand was founded by Claire Frisbie, Andrew Herrera and Nuria Net in 2006, had no outside funding; it first received external funding in 2017, from the Hemisphere Media Group, which was used to "aggressively" expand its video content production.
