Chiyoko Szlavnics
Chiyoko Szlavnics (born 1967 in Toronto, Ontario) is a Canadian experimental composer currently based in Berlin, Germany. Education and career Szlavnics graduated with honours in 1989 from the University of Toronto Faculty of Music, where she studied with James Tenney, and moved to Berlin ten years later. A composer is a person who writes music. The term is especially used to indicate composers of Western classical music, or those who are composers by occupation. Many composers are, or were, also skilled performers of music. Etymology and Definition The term is descended from Latin, ''compōnō''; literally "one who puts together". James Tenney
James Tenney (August 10, 1934 – August 24, 2006) was an American composer and music theorist. He made significant early musical contributions to plunderphonics, sound synthesis, algorithmic composition, process music, spectral music, microtonal music, and tuning systems including extended just intonation. His theoretical writings variously concern musical form, texture, timbre, consonance and dissonance, and harmonic perception.
