Chittenden Vermont Senate District, 2002-2012
The Chittenden Senate District was one of 13 Vermont Senate districts included in the redistricting and reapportionment plan developed by the Vermont General Assembly. After the 2022 Census, it was divided into three districts. The Chittenden District included all of Chittenden County except the town of Colchester (which is in the Grand Isle district). As of the 2000 census, the state as a whole had a population of 608,827. As there are a total of 30 Senators, there were 20,294 residents per senator. The Chittenden District had a population of 129,585 in that same census. The district is apportioned six senators. This equals 21,598 residents per senator, 6.42% above the state average. Vermont () is a state in the northeast New England region of the United States. Vermont is bordered by the states of Massachusetts to the south, New Hampshire to the east, and New York to the west, and the Canadian province of Quebec to the north. Admitted to the union in 1791 as the 14th state, it is the only state in New England not bordered by the Atlantic Ocean. The Vermont Progressive Party, formerly the Progressive Coalition, is a progressive political party in the United States founded in 1999 and active only in the state of Vermont. Hinesburg is a town in Chittenden County, Vermont, United States. The town was named for Abel Hine, town clerk. The population was 4,698 at the 2020 census. Essex, Vermont
Essex is a town in Chittenden County, Vermont, United States. Vermont Route 289 crosses the town from east to west. The city of Essex Junction, population 10,590, was located within the town as an incorporated village until 2022. History The town was incorporated on June 7, 1763, named after the Earl of Essex. The Village of Essex Junction was formed—within the town of Essex—on November 15, 1892. The village was formed to provide services (such as sidewalks, water, and sewers) to the villagers that the rest of the, mostly rural, town citizens did not want, and did not want to pay for. The town was named for Queen Charlotte, though unlike Charlotte, North Carolina, Charlottesville, Virginia, and other cities and towns that bear her name, the town's name is pronounced with the accent on the second syllable. In Vermont, gores and grants are unincorporated portions of a county which are not part of any town and have limited self-government (if any, as many are uninhabited). Bolton is a town in Chittenden County, Vermont, United States. The population was 1,301 at the time of the 2020 census. The town is home to Bolton Valley, a popular ski resort. The Vermont Democratic Party is the affiliate of the Democratic Party in the U.S. state of Vermont. From the time of the American Civil War until the 1960s, Vermont was an almost exclusively Republican state, with Republicans dominating Vermont politics, especially the governorship, from 1854 to 1960. Kesha Ram
Kesha Ram Hinsdale (born August 2, 1986) is an American activist and politician who serves as a member of the Vermont Senate. She served in the Vermont House of Representatives from 2009 to 2016, representing the Chittenden 6-4 District (numbered Chittenden 3-4 before 2012), which encompasses the Hill Section of Burlington and the University of Vermont. In her early career, Ram was the youngest member of the House of Representatives and the youngest state legislator in the country.
