Thomas Ira Chittenden (born October 8, 1977) is an American politician from Vermont and a member of the Vermont Democratic Party. He was elected as a Vermont State Senator on November 3, 2020 as one of the six senators representing Chittenden County. He is a South Burlington City Councilor (2015 to present) serving in his third term. He has also been twice elected by the faculty of the University of Vermont to serve as their Faculty Senate President (2019-2020). Philip Baruth
Philip E. Baruth (born February 10, 1962) is an American politician, novelist, biographer, professor, and former radio commentator from Vermont. A Democrat and member of the Vermont Progressive Party, he represents Chittenden County in the Vermont Senate. He served as Majority Leader from 2013 to 2017, when he endorsed his successor, Becca Balint. He now serves as the senate president pro tempore. Education and teaching career Baruth earned a B.A. in English from Brown University in 1984 and a Ph.D. from the University of California, Irvine, in 1993. He is Professor of English at the University of Vermont, where he has served on the faculty since 1993. Chittenden County () is the most populous county in the U.S. state of Vermont. As of the 2020 census, its population was 168,323. The county seat is Vermont's most populous municipality, the city of Burlington. The county has over a quarter of Vermont's population and more than twice the population of Vermont's second-most populous county, Rutland. The county also has more than twice the population density of Vermont's second-most dense county, Washington. Thomas Chittenden
Thomas Chittenden (January 6, 1730August 25, 1797) was an American politician from Vermont, who was a leader of the territory for nearly two decades. Chittenden was the first and third governor of the state of Vermont, serving from 1778 to 1789, when Vermont was a largely unrecognized independent state, called the Vermont Republic, and again after a year out of office, from 1790 until his death. During his first term after his return to office, Vermont was admitted to the Union as the 14th state. Early life Chittenden was born in East Guilford in the Colony of Connecticut on January 6, 1730. He married Elizabeth Meigs on October 4, 1749, in Salisbury, Connecticut. The couple had four sons and six daughters while they were living in Connecticut. All the children survived to adulthood. He was a justice of the peace in Salisbury and a member of the Colonial Assembly from 1765 to 1769. Kesha Ram Hinsdale (born August 2, 1986) is an American activist and politician who serves as a member of the Vermont Senate. She served in the Vermont House of Representatives from 2009 to 2016, representing the Chittenden 6-4 District (numbered Chittenden 3-4 before 2012), which encompasses the Hill Section of Burlington and the University of Vermont. In her early career, Ram was the youngest member of the House of Representatives and the youngest state legislator in the country. She is the youngest Indian American to ever serve in state elected office. In 2016, Ram finished third in the Democratic primary for lieutenant governor of Vermont.
