Chirk Viaduct
The Chirk Viaduct ( cy, Traphont y Waun) is a Grade II* listed buildings in Wrexham County Borough, Grade II* listed railway viaduct over the River Ceiriog between England and Wales. The viaduct carries the Shrewsbury–Chester line from the Welsh town of Chirk in Denbighshire (historic), historic Denbighshire from the north to the English village of Chirk Bank in Weston Rhyn, Shropshire to the south. Chirk Aqueduct lies parallel to the viaduct's east. Description The viaduct was designed by Henry Robertson, chief engineer of the Shrewsbury and Chester Railway, to carry the railway line across the meadows of the Ceiriog Valley, Vale of Ceiriog between Chirk and Chirk Bank partly in both Wales and England. The England–Wales border bisects the structure at an approximately 45° angle from south-west to north-east. Chirk
Chirk ( cy, Y Waun) is a town and community in Wrexham County Borough, Wales, south of Wrexham, between it and Oswestry. At the 2011 census, it had a population of 4,468. Historically in the traditional county of Denbighshire, and later Clwyd, it has been part of Wrexham County Borough since a local government reorganisation in 1996. The border with the English county of Shropshire is immediately south of the town, on the other side of the River Ceiriog. The town is served by Chirk railway station and the A5/A483 roads. The Cefn (Newbridge) Viaduct (also known as the Cefn Mawr, Cefn-bychan, Dee Railway, Newbridge (Railway) or simply Cefn Viaduct; cy, Traphont Cefn) is Grade II* listed railway viaduct across the River Dee between Cefn and Chirk communities in Wrexham County Borough, Wales. Ceiriog Valley
The Ceiriog Valley ( cy, Dyffryn Ceiriog) is the valley of the River Ceiriog in north-east Wales. Its Welsh name, "Dyffryn Ceiriog", is the name of an electoral ward of Wrexham County Borough.
