Chile National Baseball Team
The Chile national baseball team is the national baseball team of Chile. The team represents Chile in international competitions. It is affiliated to the International Baseball Federation and his continental confederation COPABE. It is controlled by the Federación de Béisbol y Softbol de Chile. History of Baseball in Chile Early Beginnings The sport of baseball was introduced to Chile on July 4, 1918. At that time, the city of Iquique in northern Chile was experiencing a nitrate boom. Sakurada Tatsukichi Endo, a Japanese man who went by the name "John," arrived in Iquique aboard a ship named Maru. John was an enthusiast of baseball, which was already a popular sport in the United States, Europe, and his native Japan. In 1931, John, along with eight other local players, established the Iquique Baseball Association, becoming Chile's first governing body for the sport. Pan American Baseball Confederation
The WBSC Americas, formerly known as Pan American Baseball Confederation (COPABE, Spanish: ''Confederación Panamericana de Béisbol'', Portuguese: ''Confederação Pan-Americana de Beisebol''), is the governing body of baseball and softball within the Americas. History Talks of the need of a baseball confederation in the Americas sparked with the founding of the Confederation of European Baseball back in the 1950s, although it was not until 1984, during the World Cup played in Cuba, that 12 countries of the Americas finally voted in favor of a formation of a confederation. The first ever Confederación Panamericana de Béisbol (COPABE) executive meeting was held in March 1985, and 11 countries participated in its first ever Congress on March 15. Baseball is a bat-and-ball sport played between two teams of nine players each, taking turns batting and fielding. Chile, officially the Republic of Chile, is a country in the western part of South America. International Baseball Federation
The International Baseball Federation (IBAF; Spanish: ''Federación Internacional de Béisbol'', French: ''Fédération internationale de baseball'') is the former worldwide governing body recognized by the International Olympic Committee as overseeing, deciding and executing the policy of the sport of baseball. The IBAF has since become the international baseball "Division" of the World Baseball Softball Confederation, the officially recognized world governing body for baseball (and softball). One of its principal responsibilities under the WBSC umbrella is to organize, standardize and sanction international competitions, using the WBSC name, among baseball's 124 national governing bodies through its various tournaments to determine a world champion and calculate world rankings for both men's and women's baseball.
