Children's Castle
Children's Castle (''Lastenlinna'') is a children's hospital in Helsinki, Finland. It is part of Helsinki University Central Hospital. The hospital was established in 1917 in the Kallio district of Helsinki. The building was designed by the Finnish architect Elsi Borg. Its current building in Taka-Töölö was completed in 1948. Pediatrician Arvo Ylppö was the hospital chief of Children's Castle from 1920 to 1963. Kallio
Kallio (; sv, Berghäll; literally " the rock") is a district and a neighbourhood in Helsinki, the capital of Finland, located on the eastern side of the Helsinki peninsula about one kilometre north from the city centre. It is one of the most densely populated areas in Finland. Kallio is separated from the city centre by the Siltasaarensalmi strait, over which is a bridge called Pitkäsilta ("long bridge"). Traditionally, the bridge symbolizes the divide between the affluent centre and the more working class areas around Kallio. After the forming of the new centre in the 19th century, the city expanded northward. Elsi Borg
Elsi Naemi Borg (October 3, 1893 – December 30, 1958) was a Finland, Finnish architect. Life She was born in Nastola and died in Helsinki. She graduated from Helsinki University of Technology in 1919. She designed the infamous children’s hospital Children's Castle in Helsinki and the Taulumäki Church in Jyväskylä. She worked with Olavi Sortta to design the military hospital in Vyborg, Viborg. Her brother was architect Kaarlo Borg. She is also the sister of graphic artist Esther Borg and Parliament member Margit Borg-Sundman. In 1919, Elli Ruuth together with Elsa Arokallio, Elsi Borg, Salme Setälä, Eva Kuhlefelt-Ekelund, Eva Kuhlefeld and Aili-Salli Ahde-Kjäldman , was part of the founding group of the Tumstocken association and then the Finnish Association of Women Architects. Arvo Ylppö
Arvo Henrik Ylppö (27 October 1887 – 28 January 1992) was a Finnish physician and professor of pediatrics who significantly decreased Finnish infant mortality during the 20th century. He is credited as the father of Finland's public maternity and child health clinic system established in 1922 ( fi, neuvola), which focuses on monitoring the health and development of newborn and pre-school children and their families, providing parents with childcare guidance and supporting child-parent interaction. For forty years, Ylppö held the title of archiater (''arkkiatri''), the highest honorary title awarded to a physician. Internationally, he was known for his research on premature infants.
