Chieti
Chieti (, ; , nap, label= Abruzzese, Chjïétë, ; gr, Θεάτη, Theátē; lat, Theate, ) is a city and ''comune'' (municipality) in Central Italy, east by northeast of Rome. It is the capital of the province of Chieti in the Abruzzo region. In Italian, the adjectival form is ''teatino'' and inhabitants of Chieti are called ''teatini''. The English form of this name is preserved in that of the Theatines, a Catholic religious order. History Mythological origins and etymology Chieti is among the most ancient of Italian cities. According to mythological legends, the city was founded by the fellows of Achilles and was named in honor of his mother, Thetis. Other traditions attribute the foundation to Greeks after the destruction of Troy, to Hercules or a queen of Pelasgians. The province of Chieti ( it, provincia di Chieti; Abruzzese: ') is a province in the Abruzzo region of Italy. Its provincial capital is the city Chieti, which has a population of 50,770 inhabitants. The province has a total population of 387,649 inhabitants and spans an area of . It is divided into 104 '' comuni'' (''comune'') and the provincial president is Mario Pupillo. Chieti's cathedral was first constructed during the 9th century but was reconstructed during the 13th century. Justin Of Chieti
Saint Justin of Chieti ( it, San Giustino di Chieti) is venerated as an early bishop of Chieti, Italy. His date of death varies, and is sometimes given as the 3rd, 4th, or 6th centuries. Historical evidence for Justin's existence from before the 15th century does not exist. His ''passio'' dates from the 15th century and was modeled mostly on that of a saint with the same name, who was bishop of Siponto, while his brothers Florentius and Felix were martyred at Furci in the Abruzzo, along with Justin's niece Justa. Chieti's cathedral (Duomo) was dedicated to him – and built – in the 9th century. Most of his relics, such as his arm, are found in an urn placed in the crypt of the cathedral of Chieti. The Theatines officially named the Congregation of Clerics Regular ( la, Ordo Clericorum Regularium), abreviated CR, is a Catholic order of clerics regular of Pontifical Right for men founded by Archbishop Gian Pietro Carafa in Sept. 14, 1524. Its members add the nominal letters C.R. after their names to indicate their membership in the Congregation. Marrucini
The Marrucini were an Italic tribe that occupied a small strip of territory around the ancient ''Teate'' (modern Chieti), on the east coast of Abruzzo, Italy, limited by the Aterno and Foro Rivers. Other Marrucinian centers included ''Ceio'' ( San Valentino in Abruzzo Citeriore), ''Iterpromium'' (whose ruins are under the Abbey of San Clemente at Casauria), ''Civitas Danzica'' (Rapino), and the port of ''Aternum'' (Pescara), shared with the Vestini. Italic Tribe
The Italic peoples were an ethnolinguistic group identified by their use of Italic languages, a branch of the Indo-European language family. The Italic peoples are descended from the Indo-European speaking peoples who inhabited Italy from at least the second millennium BC onwards.
