Chiclete Com Banana (song)
"Chiclete com banana" is a song written by Gordurinha and Almira Castilho and recorded in 1959 by Jackson do Pandeiro, who popularized the song. The title means "chewing gum and banana," which refers to American and Brazilian music. Since 1959, the song has been covered by Gilberto Gil, Tania Maria, and others. It is thought to be among the first songs composed in the style of samba rock. Uncle Sam (which has the same initials as ''United States'') is a common national personification of the federal government of the United States or the country in general. Batucada is a substyle of samba and refers to a percussive style, usually performed by an ensemble, known as a bateria. Batucada is characterized by its repetitive style and fast pace. As is Samba, the Batucada is a Brazilian musical expression with African roots. A ''tamborim'' ( or ) is a small, round Brazilian frame drum of Portuguese and African origin. The frame is 6" in width and may be made of metal, plastic, or wood. The head is typically made of nylon and is normally very tightly tuned in order tore and a minimum of sustain. The drum is devoid of snares or jingles. José Gomes Filho (August 31, 1919 – July 10, 1982), more commonly known as Jackson do Pandeiro (), was a Brazilian percussionist and singer. He is described by Allmusic as a key promotor of Northeastern Brazilian music (along with Luiz Gonzaga) and one of the most inventive and influential Brazilian musicians, though much of his recognition was posthumous. Tania Maria (born May 9, 1948) is a Brazilian artist, singer, composer, bandleader and piano player, singing mostly in Portuguese or English. Her Brazilian-style music is mostly vocal, sometimes pop, often jazzy, and includes samba, bossa, Afro-Latin, pop and jazz fusion.
