''Chicka Chicka Boom Boom'' is a bestselling American children's book written by Bill Martin, Jr. and John Archambault, illustrated by Lois Ehlert, and published in hardcover by Simon & Schuster in 1989. The book features anthropomorphized letters and charted on ''The New York Times'' Best Seller list for children's books in 2000. Plot The lowercase alphabet tries climbing up a coconut tree in order, until their weight causes the tree to lean over, and everyone falls out of the tree. After that, the uppercase alphabet (the older relatives of the lowercase alphabet) comes to rescue them. Coconut Tree
The coconut tree (''Cocos nucifera'') is a member of the palm tree family (biology), family (Arecaceae) and the only living species of the genus ''Cocos''. David Roy Plummer is an English musician and author of children's books and music. In 1968, he graduated from Reigate School of Art and Design. He signed record deals in London with EMI, CBS, and President Records. Crystal Taliefero-Pratt (née Taliefero) is an American multi-instrumentalist and vocalist. Taliefero grew up with a musical family, performing rhythm and blues with her brother in the Chicago metropolitan area. During her college years she was discovered by John Mellencamp, who helped guide her to a career as a professional musician. Taliefero performed with several artists throughout the 80s and 90s. Weston Woods Studios (or simply Weston Woods) is a production company that makes audio and short films based on well-known books for children. It was founded in 1953 by Morton Schindel in Weston, Connecticut, and named after the wooded area near his home. Michael Sampson
Dr. Michael Sampson is a Fulbright Scholar and an American children's writer best known for easy-to-read books that feature rhythmic and repetitive language. Sampson's first children's book, ''The Football That Won'', was written solo in 1992 and illustrated by Ted Rand. Later, Sampson wrote 21 books with his best friend and mentor Bill Martin, Jr., including ''Chicka, Chicka, 1, 2, 3'' and ''The Bill Martin Jr Big Book of Poetry''. Sampson taught at Texas A&M University–Commerce for 25 years before moving to the University of South Florida St. Petersburg. ''Chicka Chicka 1, 2, 3'' is the title of a children's picture book written by Bill Martin, Jr. and Michael Sampson, and illustrated by Lois Ehlert in 2004 by Simon & Schuster. The book features anthropomorphized numbers. Plot The number 0 tries to climb up an apple tree while watching the numbers from 1 to 20 (including 5 wearing a top hat) in counting order, then 30 to 90 by tens (including 70 with long hair), and finally 99, climb it. As the numbers were climbing, 0 wondered if there would be a place for him. But as they all come before him, there is no room for him, until a group of bumblebees angrily claim the tree and order the numbers to get out of their tree. While counting backwards, the bumblebees fly around them and cause all the numbers (except 10 who is hiding) to fall out of the tree. Black Eye
A periorbital hematoma, commonly called a black eye or a shiner (associated with boxing or stick sports such as hockey), is bruising around the eye commonly due to an injury to the face rather than to the eye. The name refers to the dark-colored bruising which is the result of accumulated blood and fluid in the loose areolar tissue following a blow to the head. This blood tracks freely under the scalp producing a generalised swelling over the dome of the skull but cannot pass into either occipital or the temple regions because of the bony attachments of the occipitofrontalis muscle. But this fluid can, however, track forward into the eyelid because the occipitofrontalis muscle has no bony attachment anteriorly.
