Chic Calderwood
Chic Calderwood (1 September 1937 – 12 November 1966) was a Scottish light-heavyweight boxer from Craigneuk in North Lanarkshire, Scotland who was active from 1957 to 1966. He was 6 ft. 3 in. tall and had a venomous punch, winning many of his fights by knockouts. His career was cut short when he was killed in an automobile accident. Amateur career He compiled an amateur boxing record of 64 wins and 6 defeats. Professional career He had his first professional fight in September 1957 when he fought Jimmy Teasdale in Falkirk, winning by a knockout in the second round. Over the next two years he built up a record of 23 straight wins, 17 of them by knockout. In January 1960 he fought for the vacant British light-heavyweight title, vacated by Randolph Turpin. The fight, against Arthur Howard, was held in Paisley, Scotland, and Calderwood won by a technical knockout in the thirteenth round. Craigneuk
Craigneuk is a suburb of Wishaw, North Lanarkshire, Scotland. The original village of Craigneuk was located in the area where Meadowhead Road meets the A721 at Craigneuk Street. It was originally part of Dalziel parish, along with the other rural weaving villages of Flemington, Motherwell and Windmillhill. Craigneuk village was located close to the boundary with Cambusnethan parish. Mining of coal and iron ore in the 1840s lead to industrialisation and rapid population growth from rural Scotland and large numbers of migrants from Ireland. Nearby, in Cambusnethan parish the industrial communities of Shieldmuir and Berryhill were established on the road leading to Wishaw. In 1920, the joint Burgh of Motherwell and Wishaw was created and later abolished in the 1970s. José Torres
José ("Chegüi") Torres (May 3, 1936 – January 19, 2009) was a Puerto Rican-born American professional boxer. As an amateur boxer, he won a silver medal in the junior middleweight division at the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne. In 1965, he defeated Willie Pastrano to win the WBC, WBA and lineal light heavyweight championships. Torres trained with the legendary boxing trainer Cus D'Amato. In 1997, he was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame. Amateur career Born in the city of Ponce, Puerto Rico, Torres began boxing when he joined the United States Army as a teenager (he was 17 years old). His only amateur titles had come in Army and Inter-Service championships, several of which he had won. Lignano Sabbiadoro (; fur, Lignan) is a town and comune within the province of Udine, in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region of north-eastern Italy.
