Chhatar Manzil
The Chattar Manzil ( ur, , hi, छतर मंज़िल), or Umbrella Palace is a building in Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh which served as a palace for the rulers of Awadh and their wives. Coordinates:26°85′N 80°93′E Construction and architecture It was constructed by order of Nawab Ghazi Uddin Haider and completed after his death by his successor, Nawab Nasir Uddin Haider. The Chattar Manzil stand on the banks of the River Gomti. The Chattar Manzil consisted of a ''Bari'' (larger) Chattar Manzil and ''Chhoti'' (smaller) Chattar Manzil, however only the larger one still exists. These two buildings were examples of the Indo-European-Nawabi architectural style, even though the Bari Chattar Manzil has been altered over the years. The palaces were named after the chattris (umbrella-shaped domes) on the octagonal pavilions, which crown the buildings. The Indian Rebellion of 1857 was a major uprising in India in 1857–58 against the rule of the British East India Company, which functioned as a sovereign power on behalf of the British Crown. The rebellion began on 10 May 1857 in the form of a mutiny of sepoys of the Company's army in the garrison town of Meerut, northeast of Delhi. It then erupted into other mutinies and civilian rebellions chiefly in the upper Gangetic plain and central India, though incidents of revolt also occurred farther north and east. Thomas Rust (photographer)
Thomas Henry Rust (3 March 1881 – 9 August 1962) was an English cricketer. Rust was a right-handed batsman. He was born at Gloucester, Gloucestershire. Rust made a single first-class appearance for Gloucestershire against Lancashire at the Spa Ground, Gloucester, in the 1914 County Championship. Batting first, Gloucestershire made 155, with Rust being run out after scoring 2 runs. Lancashire responded by making 394 in their first-innings, while Gloucestershire were dismissed for 206 in their second-innings, with Rust being dismissed for a duck by Bill Huddleston. Lancashire won the match by an innings and 33 runs. Rust also had a distinguished local football career, playing and captaining Gloucester City 62 times from 1898-1907, scoring 41 goals. Darogha Ubbas Alli
Darogha Ubbas Alli (aka Darogha Abbas Ali) was a 19th-century Indian engineer and photographer. Following his retirement as a municipal engineer in Lucknow, Alli began photographing the city and its surroundings in the 1870s. He published fifty of these photographs in an album named ''The Lucknow Album'' in 1874. In 1880, he produced another photographic album, titled ''An Illustrated Historical Album of Rajas and Taaluqdars of Oudh'', comprising images of the landed gentry of Oudh The Oudh State (, also Kingdom of Awadh, Kingdom of Oudh, or Awadh State) was a princely state in the Awadh region of North India until its annexation by the British in 1856. Samuel Bourne (30 October 1834 – 24 April 1912) was a British photographer known for his prolific seven years' work in India, from 1863 to 1870. Together with Charles Shepherd, he set up Bourne & Shepherd first in Shimla in 1863 and later in Kolkata (Calcutta); the company closed in June 2016. Early life and education Samuel Bourne was born on 30 October 1834, at Napley Heath, near Mucklestone, on the Staffordshire and Shropshire border to Thomas Bourne (b. 1804) and his wife Harriet ''née'' Dobson (''b''. 1802).
