Chevreuse () is a commune in the French department of Yvelines, administrative region of Île-de-France, north-central France. Geography Chevreuse is located south of Paris, in the middle of a regional natural park, Parc naturel régional de la haute vallée de Chevreuse. The river Yvette flows through the area, forming the fertile Vallée de Chevreuse. History Chevreuse was founded in the 10th century, and celebrated its first millennium of existence in 1980. Its castle, the Château de la Madeleine, dates back to the 11th century. The writer Patrice Pluyette, winner of the 2008 Prix Amerigo Vespucci, was born in Chevreuse in 1977. Patrice Pluyette (born 5 September 1977 in Chevreuse) is a French writer. Biography After studying modern letters at the Sorbonne and a master's degree on Eugène Ionesco (''Le Merveilleux dans l’œuvre théâtrale de Ionesco''), Pluyette interrupted the competitions for teaching in 2002 and devoted himself to writing. In 2004, he chose to settle down by the sea in Morbihan. Port-Royal-des-Champs was an abbey of Cistercian nuns in Magny-les-Hameaux, in the Vallée de Chevreuse southwest of Paris that launched a number of culturally important institutions. History The abbey was established in 1204, but became famous when its discipline was reformed in 1609 by its abbess, Mother Marie Angelique Arnauld (1591-1661). The Arnauld family became its patrons and the abbey's subsequent history was directed by a number of the members of that family. In 1625 most of the nuns moved to a new Port-Royal in Paris, which subsequently became '' Port-Royal de Paris'' (or, more commonly, ''Port-Royal'') while the older one was known as ''Port-Royal des Champs'' ("Port-Royal of the fields"). Transilien () is the brand name given to the commuter rail network serving Île-de-France, the region surrounding and including the city of Paris. RER B is one of the five lines in the Réseau Express Régional (English: Regional Express Network), a hybrid commuter rail and rapid transit system serving Paris, France and its Île-de-France suburbs. The RER B line crosses the region from north to south, with all trains serving a group of stations in central Paris, before branching out towards the ends of the line. Château De La Madeleine
The Château de la Madeleine is a castle located in the town of Chevreuse, in the French ''département'' of Yvelines ( Île de France). In a good state of preservation, it was built on the top of a hill and dominates the town. The name comes from the chapel of the castle, dedicated to Sainte Marie-Madeleine. History The construction of the Château de la Madeleine began between 1020 and 1090, under Guy I, lord of Chevreuse. The objective was to protect the village of Chevreuse against pillage. From this period, only the keep remains. At this time, the keep was surrounded by a wooden palisade; this palisade was replaced by stone curtain walls during the 12th century.
