Cheswick Green
Cheswick Green is a village and civil parish within the Metropolitan Borough of Solihull in the English county of West Midlands incorporating the hamlet of Illshaw Heath. The settlement lies approximately south west of Solihull town centre. The civil parish population as taken at the 2011 census was 2,197. It borders Dickens Heath and Monkspath to the north, and Earlswood and Warings Green to the south. The northernmost part of Warings Green lies in the parish of Cheswick Green. Illshaw Heath The hamlet of Illshaw heath, which predates Cheswick Green, was home of the de Yelschawe family from which it takes its name. There is an earthwork indicative of where Sidenhall Manor, home to the de Sidenhall (or Sydenhale) family, once stood. In England, a civil parish is a type of administrative parish used for local government. It is a territorial designation which is the lowest tier of local government below districts and counties, or their combined form, the unitary authority. Civil parishes can trace their origin to the ancient system of ecclesiastical parishes, which historically played a role in both secular and religious administration. The Metropolitan Borough of Solihull is a metropolitan borough in West Midlands county, England. It is named after its largest town, Solihull, from which Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council is based. For Eurostat purposes it is a NUTS 3 region (code UKG32) and is one of seven boroughs or unitary districts that comprise the "West Midlands" NUTS 2 region. Much of the large residential population in the north of the borough centres on the communities of Castle Bromwich, Fordbridge, Kingshurst, Marston Green and Smith's Wood as well as the town of Chelmsley Wood. Solihull (, or ) is a market town and the administrative centre of the wider Metropolitan Borough of Solihull in West Midlands County, England. The town had a population of 126,577 at the 2021 Census. Solihull is situated on the River Blythe in the Forest of Arden area. Solihull's wider borough had a population of 216,240 at the 2021 Census. Solihull itself is mostly urban; however, the larger borough is rural in character, with many outlying villages, and three quarters of the borough is designated as green belt. Dickens Heath
Dickens Heath is a large modern village and civil parish within the Metropolitan Borough of Solihull in the English county of West Midlands incorporating the much older hamlet of Whitlocks End. It was previously part of the civil parish of Hockley Heath, and borders Cheswick Green and Tidbury Green in Solihull, as well as Hollywood in Worcestershire. Situated 3.5 miles southwest of Solihull town centre, Dickens Heath new village had a population of 4,793 people as taken at the 2021 census. Whitlocks End The hamlet of Whitlocks End pre-dates the village of Dickens Heath, with its name believed to date back to at least the 13th century. The origins of the name are believed to be from "Wihtlac's open land". The hamlet would originally have been part of the Forest of Arden, and this name would likely refer to a clearing, or 'open land' in the forest owned by a 'Wihtlac' (pronounced Whitelock). Monkspath
Monkspath is a large residential community and light-industrial area of Solihull, West Midlands, England, southeast of the town's Shirley district (and served by Junction 4 of the M42 motorway). Monkspath is in the Blythe ward of the Metropolitan Borough of Solihull. History The name of "Munchespathe" was first recorded in 1153, when Roger de Ulehale of Tanworth was granted the manor and the adjoining lands by William de Beaumont, the third Earl of Warwick. Monkspath is built on the former hamlet of Shelly. During the 13th and 14th centuries Shelly was a thriving settlement that connected Solihull and Henley-in-Arden by way of the Kings Highway (now Shelly Lane). Earlswood is a small village in Warwickshire, England in the Tanworth-in-Arden Civil parish of the Stratford-on-Avon District. However, the northernmost part of the village lies within Tidbury Green parish in the Solihull Metropolitan Borough of the West Midlands.
