Chennai Superstars
Chennai Superstars was one of the nine teams played in the defunct Indian Cricket League (ICL) founded in 2007. The team is based in Chennai, coached by Michael Bevan and captained by Stuart Law, both reputed Australian cricketers. The team had the distinction of winning the first two championships of Indian Cricket League, the ICL Inaugural T20 held in 2007 and the ICL 50 Overs Tournament held in 2008. They earned the third place in the third ICL tournament, ICL Edelweiss 20s held in 2008 and the runners place in ICL Domestic 20s 2008. Etymology The team is named after the popular movie star of Tamil Nadu, Rajnikanth who is popularly referred to as 'Superstar'. Chennai Superstarz
Chennai Superstarz (formerly known as Chennai Smashers) is a franchise badminton team based in Chennai that plays in the Premier Badminton League (PBL). The team has won the PBL title once, has been in the semi-finals of the league twice in their five appearances. They won the 2017 season beating Mumbai Rockets 3–2. The franchise was renamed from ''Chennai Smashers'' to ''Chennai Superstarz'' in 2020. History The team's first season in the PBL was in 2016. Vijay Prabhakaran initially owned the franchise from 2016 to 2019. In December 2019, Sivakumar who owns a regional badminton league named Tamil Nadu Badminton Super League acquired the franchise to become its new owner. Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Adam Craig Parore (born 23 January 1971) is a former wicket-keeper and batsman for the New Zealand cricket team. He played 78 Test cricket matches for New Zealand and 179 One Day International cricket matches. Parore has been the managing director of financial services firm Adam Parore Mortgages. Christopher Mark Wells Read (born 10 August 1978) is an English former cricketer who was the captain of Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club. Sridharan Sriram (; born 21 February 1976) is an Indian cricket coach and former cricketer. He is a left-handed batsman and a left-arm orthodox spin bowler. The ICL 20s Grand Championship 2007/08 was a challenge tournament in the first season of the ICL that was made primarily to introduce the all-Pakistan team the Lahore Badshahs and to have them play against the other ICL teams. The tournament commenced on 9 March 2008 and the final match was held on 6 April 2008. The league consisted of eight teams with each team playing each other once. The Indian Cricket League 20-20 Indian Championship 2007/08 was the first tournament in the debut season of the ICL. The season commenced on 30 November 2007 and the final match was held on 16 December 2007. The league consisted of six teams and each team played each other once prior to classification matches. 2007 season The inaugural season for the Indian Cricket League was scheduled to begin in October 2007 but later shifted to start from 30 November with six club teams. The Chennai Superstars emerged as the inaugural ICL champions, beating the Chandigarh Lions by 12 runs in the final.
