Chen Haiwei
Chen Haiwei (; born 30 December 1994) is a Chinese competitive foil fencer. He has won three medals (one gold, one silver, one bronze) at the Asian Fencing Championships, two medals (one silver, one bronze) at the Asian Games, and two medals (one silver, one bronze) at the World Fencing Championships. Career A restless child, Chen enjoyed many different sports. He took up fencing at age 13 after his parents had him try different options for the summer holidays. He created a surprise in the 2014 Junior World Championships at Plovdiv by defeating in the semi-final Alexander Massialas of the United States, then Alexander Choupenitch of the Czech Republic. The same year Chen won the silver medal at the 2014 Asian Fencing Championships in Suwon. Asian Fencing Championships
Asian Fencing Championships is the fencing zonal championship organized by the Asian Fencing Confederation for the Asia-Oceania zone. The first Asian Fencing Championships was held in 1973 in Tehran, however, fencing in the continent did not proceed actively enough. Aleksey Borisovich Cheremisinov (russian: Алексей Борисович Черемисинов; born 9 July 1985) is a Russian right-handed foil fencer, two-time team European champion, two-time individual European champion, 2014 individual world champion, two-time Olympian, and 2016 team Olympic champion. Career Cheremisinov took up fencing when he was seven, because there was a fencing hall close to home. His first coach was Lev Koreshkov. Cheremisinov joined the Russia national team in 2007. He attempted to qualify for the 2008 Summer Olympics, but his defeat in the quarter-finals of the Lisbon qualifying tournament to Romania's Virgil Sălișcan ended his hopes. Alexander Choupenitch (; born 2 May 1994) is a Czech right-handed foil fencer, two-time Olympian, and 2021 individual Olympic bronze medalist. Personal life Choupenitch is the son of Belarusian-born opera singers who both worked at National Theatre Brno. The unusual form of his name–Choupenitch instead of Šupenič–is due to the fact that papers issued to his parents for travelling through Europe used a French spelling. His first sport, basketball, left him frustrated as he seldom got to touch the ball, so his mother took him to the fencing section of Sokol Brno when he was eight. He later learnt that his step-grandmother, Tatyana Petrenko-Samusenko, was a three-time Olympic foil champion for the USSR. Alexander Massialas (born April 20, 1994) is an American right-handed foil fencer. Massialas is a two-time NCAA champion, 11-time team Pan American champion, two-time individual Pan American champion, and 2019 team world champion. A three-time Olympian, Massialas is a 2016 individual Olympic silver medalist and two-time team Olympic bronze medalist. Massialas competed in the 2012 London Olympic Games, the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games, and the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games. Biography Massialas was born in San Francisco, California, to a father of Greek descent and a Taiwanese mother. His father, Greg Massialas, fenced for the United States in the 1984 and 1988 Summer Olympics, and currently coaches the American national foil team.
