Chen Chin-te
Chen Chin-te (; born 26 September 1961), also known as Derek Chen, is a Taiwanese politician. Career Chen attended National Taipei University of Technology and National Taiwan University of Science and Technology. Through his activism, Chen became known as the "oldest grandson of the tangwai movement." He worked as Yu Shyi-kun's secretary when Yu was Yilan County magistrate. Chen ended his graduate studies without earning a doctoral degree, to run in the 1991 National Assembly elections. While a member of the National Assembly, Chen also served as Democratic Progressive Party caucus leader. Within the DPP, Chen was affiliated with the New Tide faction. In 2000, Chen helped pass laws that reduced the power of the legislative body. Most of the assembly's responsibilities were delegated to the Legislative Yuan. Chen Tsiao-long
Chen Tsiao-long (; born 1 October 1953) is a Taiwanese politician who served two terms as a member of the Legislative Yuan from 2002 to 2008. Education Chen studied electrical engineering at the National Taipei University of Technology. Political career Chen served on the National Assembly before taking office in the Legislative Yuan. In the 2001 legislative elections, Chen Tsiao-long and Chen Chin-te formed an electoral coalition with four other politicians. As the election drew nearer, Chen campaigned alongside Wang Shu-hui and Lai Chin-lin. Chen Tsiao-long won a second term in 2004, and was renominated for a third after defeating Shen Fa-hui in a party primary. During his third legislative campaign, Chen was placed under investigation of electoral fraud, and he subsequently lost to Lee Ching-hua in January 2008. Chen Chu or Kiku Chen (; born 10 June 1950) is the current President of the Control Yuan and Chair of the National Human Rights Commission. Before assuming her current post, Chen had served as Secretary-General to the President from 2018 to 2020 and Mayor of Kaohsiung from 2006 to 2018, making her the longest-serving mayor of the city since the Japanese occupation of Taiwan. Chang Chun-hsiung (), (born 23 March 1938) is a Taiwanese politician. He is a former Premier of the Republic of China. Chang was appointed to two separate terms as Premier, both under Chen Shui-bian. His appointment by then-President Chen in 2000 marked the first time a Democratic Progressive Party member occupied the premiership. Referendums in Taiwan at both the national and local level are governed by the ''Referendum Act'' of Taiwan, which was enacted by the Legislative Yuan in December 2003. Citizens can propose laws via referendums at the national and local levels. The ''Referendum Act'' also allowed people to make changes or abolish laws by referendums.
