Min Nan
Southern Min (), Minnan (Mandarin pronunciation: ) or Banlam (), is a group of linguistically similar and historically related Sinitic languages that form a branch of Min Chinese spoken in Fujian (especially the Minnan region), most of Taiwan (many citizens are descendants of settlers from Fujian), Eastern Guangdong, Hainan, and Southern Zhejiang. The Minnan dialects are also spoken by descendants of emigrants from these areas in diaspora, most notably the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York City. It is the most populous branch of Min Chinese, spoken by an estimated 48 million people in c. 2017–2018. In common parlance and in the narrower sense, Southern Min refers to the Quanzhang or Hokkien-Taiwanese variety of Southern Min originating from Southern Fujian in Mainland China. Hokkien
The Hokkien () variety of Chinese is a Southern Min language native to and originating from the Minnan region, where it is widely spoken in the south-eastern part of Fujian in southeastern mainland China. It is one of the national languages in Taiwan, and it is also widely spoken within the Chinese diaspora in Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and other parts of Southeast Asia; and by other overseas Chinese beyond Asia and all over the world. Chee Kim Thong
Chee Kim Thong (; 1920–2001) was a Shaolin martial arts grandmaster. Chee was born on 19 May 1920 in a village near Putian, Fujian, China. The son of You Yuan, a Fujianese merchant, Grandmaster Chee Kim Thong's apprenticeship to Chinese martial arts began as a child. His natural ability, combined with a family tradition of excelling in the martial arts – his grandmother was a recognised master of Monkey Boxing (Hou Quan) - prepared him well for the traditional Lei Tai contests. Chee Soon Juan
Chee Soon Juan is a Singaporean politician, activist and former lecturer who has been serving as Secretary-General of the Singapore Democratic Party since 1993. Prior to entering politics in 1992, upon Chiam See Tong's invitation to join the Singapore Democratic Party (SDP), Chee was a lecturer at the National University of Singapore. Chee subsequently succeeded Chiam as the party's secretary-general after Chiam, whom Chee and the rest of the party's leadership have had a number of disagreements, left the party. The party had three Parliament of Singapore, Members of Parliament (MPs) at the time Chee took over as secretary-general, but lost all its seats at the 1997 Singaporean general election, 1997 general election and has not had any elected members since. Chee Hong Tat
Chee Hong Tat ( zh, s=徐芳达, p=Xú Fāngdá; born 1973) is a Singaporean politician who has been serving as Senior Minister of State for Finance since 2022 and Senior Minister of State for Transport since 2020. A member of the governing People's Action Party (PAP), he has been the Member of Parliament (MP) representing the Toa Payoh West–Thomson division of Bishan–Toa Payoh GRC since 2015. Before entering politics, Chee had worked at various Ministries and was Principal Private Secretary to Lee Kuan Yew from 2008 to 2011. Chee Weng Fai Jason (; born 26 January 1983), also known as Jason Chee, is a Singaporean para table tennis player who had won gold medals at multiple editions of the ASEAN Para Games. Kenneth Thomas Chee Chee (26 March 1944 – 14 March 1977), known as Benjamin Chee Chee, was an Ojibwa Canadian artist born in Temagami, Ontario. Early life Chee Chee's early life was troubled and he lost track of his mother, for whom he spent many years searching. He moved to Montreal in 1965 where he developed his love of drawing, and moved back to Ottawa in 1973. ] Career Chee Chee's first exhibition was held in 1973 at the University of Ottawa. Soon after he gained fame as he developed his unique style of clear graceful lines and minimal colour, depicting birds and animals. Chee Wan Hoe (born 9 December 1971) is a Malaysian former footballer. He formerly played with Perak FA and Penang FA. He also the former member of Malaysia Olympic Team (Malaysia U-23) in 1991. Karen Chee is an American comedian and writer. She has been a staff writer for ''Late Night with Seth Meyers'' since January 2019. Early life and career Chee's parents emigrated to the United States from South Korea. Robert Chee
Robert Chee, also known as Hashke-Yil-Cale (1937–1971) was a Navajo contemporary artist and author. He is best known for his painting and serigraphy, but he also worked as an illustrator, and weaver. Early life and education Robert Chee was born on December 14, 1937, in St. Michaels, Arizona. In early age, he attended school in Bellemont. His artistic talent was recognized in childhood, he started painting at age 10. Chee was enrolled in the Intermountain Indian School, where he studied under Allan Houser. He had been a member of Tewa Enterprises (around 1951), the Native American printmaking group.
