"Checkmate" is a song by the American rapper Jadakiss, released as a promotional single on March 9, 2005, by Ruff Ryders Entertainment/Interscope Records. The song uses the instrumental "Air It Out" from Big Noyd's album ''Only the Strong (Big Noyd album), Only the Strong'', produced by The Alchemist (musician), The Alchemist. "Checkmate" is a diss track aimed at 50 Cent, a response to 50 Cent's diss track "Piggy Bank (song), Piggy Bank". "Checkmate" was in heavy rotation on hip-hop radio and reached number 56 on ''Billboard (magazine), Billboard'' Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Background 50 Cent had a feud with Ja Rule since 1999. Jason Terrance Phillips (born May 27, 1975), better known by his stage name Jadakiss, is an American rapper from Yonkers, New York. He began his career in the 1990s as a member of the rap trio The Lox, managed by Ruff Ryders and signed with Bad Boy Entertainment, Bad Boy. After leaving the label in 1999, they signed a joint venture deal between Interscope and Ruff Ryders. He is currently signed to Def Jam Recordings, Def Jam and D-Block. Jadakiss' debut solo album, ''Kiss Tha Game Goodbye'', was released in 2001. He has released three more solo studio albums, another album with the Lox, and an album with fellow rapper Fabolous. Kenneth "Supreme" McGriff (born September 19, 1960) is an American convicted former drug lord and gangster from New York City. Background McGriff rose to prominence in early 1981 when he formed his own crack cocaine distributing and manufacturing organization which he called The Supreme Team based in the Baisley Park Houses in the South Jamaica section of the Queens borough of New York City, New York. Under McGriff's leadership, the gang's numbers swelled to the hundreds and came to control the crack cocaine trade in Baisley Park, the neighborhood where McGriff was raised. Murder, Inc.
