Chatsworth is a city in Murray County, Georgia, United States, specifically in the Dalton, Georgia Dalton metropolitan area, Metropolitan Statistical Area. Its population was 4,874 at the 2020 United States census, 2020 census. The city is the county seat of Murray County and the site of the coldest recorded temperature in Georgia, -17 °F (-27 °C) on January 27, 1940. According to a popular legend, the town received its name after a road sign with the word "Chatsworth" fell off a passing freight train nearby. Someone put the sign on a post, and the name stuck. Just east of Chatsworth are Fort Mountain (Murray County, Georgia), Fort Mountain ,Grassy Mountain, and the Fort Mountain State Park. Fort Mountain (Murray County, Georgia)
Fort Mountain is a mountain in northern Georgia, just east of Chatsworth. It is part of the Cohutta Mountains, a small mountain range at the southern end of the Appalachian Mountains. It also lies within the Chattahoochee National Forest. A main feature of Fort Mountain is an ancient rock formation or ruin of unknown origin, from which the mountain takes its name. The site lies within Fort Mountain State Park and consists of a series of stone piles lying in a long uneven line that follows the contour of the mountainside. Estimates of its length vary. In a previously published archaeological report, Philip E. Smith (University Of Georgia) gives as its length, while the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (State Parks Division) estimates the length as . Jody Ridley (born May 19, 1942) is a former NASCAR driver. He won the 1980 NASCAR Winston Cup Rookie of the Year award and one race at Dover International Speedway the next year, the only Cup victory for Donlavey Racing. His career statistics include 140 career starts, one win, seven top fives, 56 top tens, and two top ten points finishes (fifth in 1981, and seventh in 1980). In the 1989 Daytona 500, Ridley took over for an injured Bill Elliott, but he would have a hard crash later in the race. He now resides in Chatsworth, Georgia.
