Kansas's 27th Senate district is one of 40 districts in the Kansas Senate. It has been represented by Republican Chase Blasi since 2023, succeeding fellow Republican Gene Suellentrop following his resignation. Geography District 27 is based in the western reaches of Wichita in Sedgwick County, also covering some or all of the suburbs of Colwich, Andale, Maize, and Goddard. Gene Suellentrop (born January 1, 1952) is an American politician who was a Republican member of the Kansas State Senate, representing the 27th district from January 11, 2017, to January 2, 2023. He served as the Senate's Majority Leader beginning in January 2021. After an intoxicated high-speed freeway police chase in the wrong direction on March 16, 2021, he was removed as Senate Majority Leader by a caucus vote in April 2021, but not from the Senate itself. Before being elected to the state senate, he had served two terms in the Kansas house, then was elected to the senate in 2016. Newman University is a private Roman Catholic university in Wichita, Kansas. It is named for John Henry Newman and was founded by the Adorers of the Blood of Christ in 1933. History The college was founded in 1933 by the Adorers of the Blood of Christ as Sacred Heart Junior College. Courses were offered for women only, initially offering degrees in home economics, nursing, teaching, and secretarial science. The college added more facilities and courses during the 1950s and began accepting male students on a limited basis in 1959. Susan Wagle
Susan Wagle (born September 27, 1953) is an American politician who served as a Republican member of the Kansas Senate, representing the 30th district from 2001 to 2021. She was elected Kansas Senate President in 2013 and was reelected in 2017. She is the first woman to hold this position. Early life Wagle was born on September 27, 1953, in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
