Charlton Lido (branded as Charlton Lido and Lifestyle Club) is a swimming pool and leisure centre in Hornfair Park, Charlton, London, Charlton, southeast London. Facilities As well as the outdoor Olympic-size swimming pool heated to 25C all year, the centre has a children's pool, outdoor sunbathing space, a gym, spin studio, and a cafe and rooftop terrace, plus tennis courts nearby. History The last municipal lido to be built in London, Charlton Lido first opened in May 1939. Similar to other London County Council lidos designed by Harry Rowbotham and T. L. Parliament Hill Lido, located in Hampstead Heath, north London, is next to Gospel Oak railway station. The lido, also known as Hampstead Heath Lido, is a public unheated open air swimming pool, open for 12 months a year. It first opened in 1938. Description This unheated pool is and is owned and operated by the City of London Corporation, who also own the whole of Hampstead Heath. The lido is open for the summer season from mid May to mid September. Tooting Bec Lido is an open-air fresh water swimming pool in South London. It is the largest fresh water swimming pool by surface area in the United Kingdom, being 100 yards (91.44 m) long and 33 yards (30.18 m) wide. The Lido is on Tooting Bec Common between Tooting and Streatham. An original condition of construction was that it should be concealed from views across the common by a surrounding earth ramp. This ramp is now largely covered with bird-filled trees, except where it is breached by the new entrance. The alternating bright red, yellow, and green doors of the changing cubicles seen above the turquoise water make the Lido a popular location for advertisement "shoots" and other filming. Brockwell Lido is a large lido in Brockwell Park, Herne Hill, London. It opened in July 1937, closed in 1990 and after a local campaign was re-opened in 1994. Two ex council employees Paddy and Casey took on the running of the Lido for the community. Lambeth council gave Paddy & Casey (ex council workers) a peppercorn lease rate from 1994–2001. Lambeth gave them a one-year extension in 2002 whilst a public consultation was held to decide on the longer term sustainable future of the Lido. History Brockwell Lido was designed by Harry Rowbotham and T. L. Smithson in the Moderne style for the London County Council's Parks Department.
